well i am glad you asked Nick. A lot of pain, blood and swearing so i did my usual test disks and was not blown away in my 5.1 DSP set up, however i think initial thoughts are bass is clearer and there is a little more sparkle and liveliness to the speakers. 5000 - 33- 5000 fronts and 33 rears all DSP. I listen mainly in 2 channel and seal, sting and harry connick jnr seemed nice but i am not really that good at listening tests unless i can switch between sources, amps, etc then i can help justify the cost if i can hear the difference.
This exercise was a freebie and i believe the forum said good things - anything to keep the G- blues at bay for a time so that technology settles down.

Video is often more noticeable so installing my iscan and calibrating using SMART III was easily justified. Perhaps you can suggest some listening material and bits to listen out for that might blow me away ???
other than that I think i am physcilogically pleased with the upgrade and the 5000 are sounding clearer, 33s not sure perhaps a little in the surround space, the centre sounds clearer.
Overall 7/10 does that help

I felt the surround channels timing made for a better blend with the fronts. M really made some nice tweaks on the DSP settings internally(non user settings). The sound stage is more focused with more air. Make sure you turn on upsampling on all DSP settings. M did not default everyone of them to high speed on. That way when listening to two channel PCM you can enjoy upsampling on all the DSP choices.

Glad it all worked out for you! Enjoy!

Ron
