I have a tendency not to read manuals of electronics, but today I was going through them just to kill time and found out that I need to tighten the drivers once in a while.
So I opened the grills (which by the way not easy for the first timer) and checked the screws and they were seriously loosened. After tightening them, I am getting more refined sound, which is quite an SQ improvement.
But I see same screws in the tweeter which is covered by magnet grill, and I am determined to tight them up as well, but it seems not possible. So is there any way to tighten them? Or should I not touch them?
Again, lesson is learned that I should read the manuals.
My speakers are DSP5200 Non-SL.

Don't touch the screws inside the mesh, they hold the waveguide and voice coil plate and magnet together.
If you overtighten the bolts round the drivers, you will distort and dimple the frames and baskets around the overtightened bolts.

You can tighten the tweeter holding screws, I recommend it as the tweeter has a plastic ribbed flange, which can and does often resonate if it's in any way "loose"... just don't overdo it.

what a great idea. I tightened the screws when my 7200's were a few months old. To my surprise now, a few years later, the screws were all loose. I guess this has to be done every 2 years or so?
Listening to the same tracks through my 5200s as I had listened to through my headphones (top quality Shure) the night before I was disappointed! The speakers sounded sloppy, lacking in musicality and detail.
Reading this thread reminded me to check the driver screws for tightness and lo and behold each bass driver screw needed at least half a turn and the tweeter screws about a quarter turn. The difference was not subtle, similar in proportion to going from non SE to SE versions if my memory from Rick's dems serves me well.
Moral - don't leave it for six years before checking the driver screw tightness.

Yes tightening screws on tweeters is possible. However removing individual grilles from 5200's and 7200's to tighten mid and bass driver fixings is a daunting proposition for the novice. I recently asked a PP to demonstrate how this should be done without damage to the cabinet. Not so easy! The experiment was abandoned before the first grille was removed. I would love to hear from experienced members how individual grilles can be removed without cosmetic or structural risk to 5200 or 7200 products. Hector

If you run a finger around just inside the grill cloth you will come across an indent. The idea is to hook your finger under this indent and pull the grill away from the cabinet. It's not easy as they are a tight fit. I usually give a little help by using my nail on a finger from my other hand to help ease out the grill with a prising action at the same time. The finger nail can just fit between the grill and the cabinet, at the same point as the the finger that's pulling, once it has started to move. Once it moves, the process is easy.
When refitting, I don't push them back too hard, so we're ready for next time.
