Finally saw Lego Movie and I was impressed. Funny with good visuals. This is the type kids movie I am okay with watching over and over again with my son.

More of a disc than a film recommendation.

Ive been buying Criterion Collection Bluray off Amazon recently. They are all excellent, but three standouts.

Au Revoir Les Enfants
Big Chill
The Darjeeling Ltd

Really nicely produced discs with lots of extras.
Cheers

*1 to virtually anything Criterion. My last order (B&N sale) was 20 films. They really do put together an amazing package for each one.

IP Man.

Came across it as it's on IMDb's Top 250 list that I'm slowly working through.

Brilliant film. It's a martial arts piece but don't let that put you off (which it ordinarily might do to me) as unlike many modern such films the fight scenes are a) stunning and b) realistic, with none of the OTT running up walls etc that too often spoils them for me.

The whole film is shot with a pale, almost B&W palette which suits the 1930s setting beautifully and the lead is a great example of restrained, composed acting. Terrific.

A question for all you film enthusiasts.
I have a copy of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" to watch on Bluray and have a choice of Swedish with subtitles or English audio. What do I go for?
Thanks Chris smile

GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

It's such a good film, I watched it both ways (subtitled first)

I always try to watch films in native language. Dubbed films seem wrong to me!

I always go for subtitles - the actor's voice is too big a part of the performance to throw away. Plus, anyone else remember "The Water Margin"?

Hi Chris

Definitely watch the subtitled version and not the dubbed version. You are getting the actors voice performance, the dialogue will be in sync with the video and sometimes dubbed dialogue is slightly altered to try to better match lip movement.

The only time I would suggest anyone watches a dubbed version is if they are using a constant image height projector set up, and subtitles placed on the lower black bar of wide-screen films, fall out of the screen area.

Are you going to watch the extended version of 'Dragon Tattoo' or the theatrical cut? I would recommend you watch the extended versions if you can of the entire trilogy. They are a much better reflection of the books than the shorter versions.

If you like Dragon Tattoo; you may want watch the David Fincher film version as well. It is an interesting and slightly different take on the story but nowhere near as good as the original as far as I am concerned.

You know where they are if you want to borrow them!

I've found that countries that have a tradition of dubbing often do a pretty good job. American movies dubbed into French or Italian, for instance, sound less stilted than French or Italian dubbed into English. So I'd stick with the subs.

Main System: Trinnov Altitude 32-8-16, 271, 2 x 8KXE, 1 x 8KPP, 6 x M6 Surrounds, Rel No.25, Oppo 203, Zappiti Pro 4K HDR, Roon, WiiM Mini.
