M would never allow such an obvious typo in their marketing literature, would they...

Meridian USA VP Ken Forsythe previewing the new Meridian DSP320 wall/ceiling speakers at CEDIA that would make excellent luxury HT Atmos ceiling speakers :-)

CEDIA DSP320 preview (short)

They resemble DSP420's, which have been end-of-life'd for a while.

I was hoping for something a little smaller, something with a similar foot print (or should that be hand print) to the M80\F80.

It's good that Atmos is at least being mentioned in their recent discussions.

Interesting!

Does this suggest that M has an update coming to the 861 and/or HD621? Can we do Atmos with the current configuration, if M sticks with the policy of the player processing to PCM?

I assume one can just add more cards to the 861, but does it have the processing power? Can the HD621 pass all the necessary channels?

I wonder if M is saying Atmos, or is the commentator mearly assuming?

IMHO it would have to be a major HD621 upgrade so it could handle bitstream and pass extra channels to an enhanced 861.

M see the 861 as an audio temple and I can't see them putting an HDMI decoding capacity\input anywhere near it.

At last, an Atmos encoded Blu-ray title that someone over the age of seven might want to watch.

Gravity with an Atmos soundtrack

Just as an FYI, I went to see Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" last weekend

I waited until the very end credits and Dolby Atmos was not listed as one of the available Soundtracks used........just Dolby Digital and Datasat

If a major release like this doesn't have Atmos, it does make you wonder.....

I fear the Atmos will be added afterwards sort of like TV's converting 2d to 3d frown

Naturally - it will be done afterwards so that you can buy it again, after the ltd edition multi-disc version....which then follows the director's cut, then the anniversary edition; extended version.

I don't think that's possible Russ, IIRC.

I know that Gravity, for example, was released in Theatres using Atmos... and now the Bluray as well... but I believe that Atmos has to be there from the get-go, rather than post-conversion after the Cinema release.

No doubt the Atmos Processor can simulate or add "Atmos Type Effects", but if the Cinema release isn't a native Atmos encoding, then post-conversion isn't a runner I believe.

That's my understanding too.

Hi Ronnie

Thanks for putting me straight, then as you say if the latest releases are not encoded with Atmos then it's long term future could be in doubt?

Russ
