Having quite a few recognition failures with a batch of albums I ripped with dBpa while the plugin wasn't working and I'm now importing. The thing is, I can't seem to see much difference between the albums being found/not found - they're all pretty common/mainstream and I can find full details on the AMG website for each.

Any idea what I could try? I can't see the AMG ID on the site any more, or I would try entering that in the first instance - is there a way to find that these days?

Cheers.

Pretty sure it is down today. Just ripping for the first time in a while and nothing is being recognised. Seems to be the same almost every time I get around to ripping which leads me to suspect that it must be down quite a lot or I'm just unlucky with when I try!

Sorry to hear that. The problems I encountered were yesterday, though, and it was recognising perhaps 1 in 2 albums, which leads me to believe AMG wasn't actually down. Just can't seem to find the manual ID on there any more...

BTW - if you're ripping anew, try the dBpa plugin - pretty much working a treat right now.

I ripped a few albums yesterday with no problems. Sometimes it won't recognise a classic album (Rolling Stones Let it bleed was an example) and you find there is a re release that the data base would find but your version can't be found.
Stuff happens, I just do it manually. Copy paste reviews, images etc. it's the credits that take time.

The last time I looked, the AMG ID is still at the end of the URL on the All Music Guide website.

In some instances, it's necessary to go to the "Releases" tab to find the version that matches what you're importing.

Having said that, and being pretty confident about having the correct ID, I could never get the manual lookup to work. I think this is also related to changes AMG made to their site (that prompted the dBpa plug-in problem).

Cheers, Ian

Thanks Ian, I'll try the end of URL trick, didn't know about that one!

I have had manual lookup work in the past, but no idea since AMG changed things their end.

I seem to be getting far too many failed lookups again today. Albums that are clearly in the Allmusic database.
Do we have a problem again?

Anecdotally, I'd also say something has changed. Generally poorer results importing in the last few days. Today I imported 3 albums, of which 1 was a perfect match, 1 a mismatch and 1 not found. I tried both Import CD directly from Control:Mac as well as rip with dBpoweramp, then import files.
