Just a brief update, fwiw. I checked my box of old parts from when the upgrade was performed and found both the ID40 card (so yes, there was the upgrade to ID41 as part of the .5 upgrade) and another card that has "digital output" printed across the top. But I also clearly have a digital output card in the unit now, so I have to assume that this card also was 'upgraded' at the time--though if it doesn't work, it hardly seems like an upgrade.

I did go through all of the settings, and the manual, again and failed to see where I could enable/disable MHR encryption. So I'm assuming that I need to load and dig into the Meridian Configuration Program (which I haven't really needed to use in the past). So that's my next step.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Sorry for the long delay, but just to complete the loop on this topic that I opened: ultimately it does turn out to be simply a configuration issue, despite what the (now-defunct) dealer told me when they performed the upgrade.

It turns out, as people have suggested, that in the Meridian Configuration control, the 808.5 upgrade process apparently turned *everything* off (there was no configuration, basically), but MHS MHR was turned on by default. So a Meridian regional rep helped walk me through my first experience with the configuration software and we turned parts back on and disabled MHS MHR and that did the trick.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Good to hear, but you mean MHR right? It needs to be turned off to connect digitally with non-Meridian equipment.

Yes, my typo/error. I did mean MHR. Thanks.
