Ronnie Lane's Slim Chance, a new double CD of great songs, out takes and live performances from the BBC in 1974. "Ooh La La an Island Harvest" Fantastic for all his fans to hear this again in fine fettle. Then we saw the 1911 ragtime band busking in Cambridge. I had to get their CD, wonderful trad Jazz and ragtime music. Enjoy, Chris

No 18 in the Hall of fame I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

Just listening to the wonderful sound of Bob Marley & The Wailers in 5.1 Lossless and it really is taking my breath away .Always loved from my early years in London but its perfect at this time of year for chillaxing and the 5.1 mix really gives it air to fill the room with great rhythms and fabulous lyrics .
Its available as a CD/BD Audio 30th Anniversary set on Amazon and very highly recommended .

Totally agree, this is a wonderful BD. I would also recommend Kaya on BD audio Although you only get 2 channel 96/24 DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby True HD and PCM, the sound is outstanding. It is also a damn fine album

I will investigate Kaya , thanks ! In the ' ...and now for something completely different category ' I've also spent quite a bit of time trawling through the Anniversary Edition of Deep Purple's ' Made in Japan ' and the musicianship and sheer fun it exudes is really marvellous . It features all 3 nights that they played on the mini-tour of Japan featuring subtle variations of the interplay between Ian Gillan and Richie Blackmore and the encores from each night . The real bonus is the pair of HD downloads , one of the original mix from 1972 and also the 2012 remix in 24/96 . 'Can we have everything louder than everything else please ? ' Whatever ~M~

Ah, Made In Japan, that takes me back. I was a Deep Purple fanatic from ~ 1980 & bought everything I could lay my hands on, all financed by working on local farms during school holidays. I had all the albums, some bootleg albums plus loads of 7" singles; rare Jap imports, you name it. Of course I threw it all out after CD came out & I moved out of Mum & Dad's house. No eBay you see.....
Once I'd tipped the vinyl out I sort of lost touch with them & got into Springsteen & other loves & didn't play any Purple for many years & I still don't listen to them much these days. In Rock is their best by a country mile IMO; Speed King, Child In Time & (particularly) Hard Lovin' Man are just brilliant but the whole album is a true great. Fireball gets the odd spinning as does WDWTWA.
Golden days.

If you like "Child In Time", you may appreciate this: "Bombay Calling" by It's a Beautiful Day (1969)

That's interesting Gianni; I hadn't come across that before & after only one listen I certainly prefer Child In Time (as do most commentators on YT) but I'll investigate further. Thanks.

I don't get wound up by the various plagiarism arguments. For example the Taurus by Spirit is Stairway to Heaven fuss is equally pointless. But, in the spirit (tee he) of the thread, it does allow me to recommend the albums: "12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus" and: "Spirit of '76" for those who are unfamiliar with them.

12 Dreams has a late 60s West Coast vibe with strong jazz and acid influences underpinning amazing guitar work and with a great sense of humour. It is full of strong songs with Nature's Way being a classic followed by the contrasting Animal Zoo which challenges the hippy dynamic. Spirit of '76 evokes a great sense of America and American music. The opening juxtaposition of America The Beautiful/Times They Are A-Changing' makes a strong point about what was becoming the normative tradition at the time. Again the guitar work is brilliant but the innovative use of sampling and studio techniques also comes through. This was not a protest album, it was a celebration of the US bi-centenary. All the above to be read in a Melvyn Bragg/Brian Sewell accent.
