ok, thank you John for your explanation!

i missed it was about 5.1 not 7.1...

Things i still not understand are these extracts from 861 V3 and V4 brochure:

"Up to 10 outputs at 96kHz/24bit "

"In each DSP core, the incoming signals are processed using a variety of proprietary algorithms and up to a dozen output signals are generated. These signals can be used to feed a number of speaker layouts, ranging from 2- to 9-speaker stereo/surround with
multiple subwoofers (with adjustable crossover parameters)."

So what can you do if you add a third OA03 or OA13to the first 2 used by the 7.1 output?

That 9 and 10th channel are only good for the 2+2+2 preset, and there they represent 2 height channels.

The 2+2+2 recordings are made by the German Recording company MDG They have 2 height channels in stead of the center and sub (so still 5.1 DVD-A recordings)
You than loose the Center and sides in the playback process (sub still used for bass management)

So no use as of yet for multiple subs from a 3rd output card in 861.

I think also Meridian might have understood my question wrong. What i would like to see is the modell Lexicon has implemented:
For bass managment 2 subs, one gets all the left bass, other all the right, and they devide bass from the center channel.
The 3rd woofer is dedicated for the LFE channel.
This way spatiality is still there, and this is better to adjust between film and music playback than having LFE+BM output summed into 1 woofer.

Jaco,

What you are asking for will require the software for > 8 outputs. I suspect (can't confirm) that this would be possible once that software is completed.

Cheers,

ianh,

You stated that you were looking for "displays that supported native resolution at both 50 and 60Hz".

For what it's worth, according to the user manual for the Loewe Spheros 37 that I've managed to get hold of, this one displays 1366x768 at 220v to 240v/50-60Hz (PAL).

This resolution will soon be increased to 1366x968 with the launch of the High Definition enabled 'Spheros 37R Masterpiece' in November.

Check-out the English press-release section of http://www.loewe.de for more information.

I have got a Loewe Xelos SL on order [Linked Image from softronix.com] which according to Loewe supports native 1366x768 too. Trouble is, the EDID only reports 1280x720 so I have no way to override, hence my request for a user defined resolution. There is a mode to define whatever resolution you want, but the little fiddling that I did with this (it was a bit tedious and it was connected to a Linn DVD player that I was not familiar with) I was not able to see if it changed the EDID accordingly.

If possible, could you point me in the direction of the manual. Loewe kindly forwarded me a German version [Linked Image from softronix.com] and I can't find English versions online.

Thanks

Ian

John, i read that through your stories, but i thought my wishes were misunderstood.
I guess they are going to deliver such things once they have the basic possibilitys developed. Routing another bas signal than will most likely not be a big issue anymore.

ianh,

I simply emailed Loewe UK customer services (via the German website) and asked them to send me the English manual.

They duly obliged with an email with an attached .pdf.

"-- crossover points for each channel or mains, center and surrounds having separate
crossover points.

Meridian Response:
This is a reasonable request. It's tough to choose a compromise between ease of use and
flexibility. At this point, ease of use is t
he path taken."

This would be a good feature for those of us with analog speakers with different size center/rears/sides.

I read M's response to this question with interest. These guys sure can waffle. On the one hand they say it's a reasonable request but on the other they don't offer it for ease of use reasons. I'm not sure how to interprate this. Are they planning to offer it in the future or not? The G68 is already a highly complex and flexible machine. Adding this feature, along with a comprehensive manual explaning bass management, should be easily manageable by most anyone on this board or an authorized dealer. Just my opinion.

We didn't even get into the discussion of whether the capability to set multiple crossover points is a good idea.

Personally, I think it isn't, but that's just my opinion. Fighting the room (even with MRC) is difficult to begin with, but strategizing for multiple crossover points, where each speaker (or realistically each grouping of speakers) excites different room modes could well be far more trouble than its worth.

IMO, they weren't waffling but rather explaining why they took the path they did.

Personally, I find the ability to set seperate crossover points for music and movies to be of more value than seperate crossover points for the various groupings of speakers.

Cheers,
