Well you obviously need a bitstream into a processor, and that is not the Meridian way of doing it. But you never know.. If everyone supports it an M not it will become a 2 channel brand indeed.
I wholeheartedly agree with that and, having gone from 7.0 to 2.0, couldn't be happier with the end result.
In fact, I have even made more money out of this than I thought given I don't have 5 extra DSP to get to SE. Look at what I saved !! Proper bloke-logic that is !!
I seem to remember a previous discussion re WAF of multiple speakers on the ceiling. I dont think I will ever be allowed more than 5 (with none on the ceiling) and fewer if I go down the SE route.
Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.
The huge irony being that Bob Stuart and others at the AES meeting I went to were unequivocal that hight channels are more important psycho-acoustically than rears and sides...

That I do believe, but the official M statement also always was that there needs to be a catalog of material to play before they think of supporting a format.
I am excited by ATMOS having experienced it first hand in the cinema watching "Gravity". It feels like audio format development has lagged visual format progress (720P ---> 1080P ---> 4K+ in just a few years). Perhaps I don't follow things closely enough, but ATMOS has certainly caught my attention - first time I have logged-in here for a while.
Still think I will press ahead with the v6 to v8 861 upgrade, but v10 has to be ATMOS in my humble view. Commercially, I think every mainstream manufacturer is going to jump on this development - even if it's implemented through speakers that reflect onto - rather than placed in the ceiling, and even if the cinema implementation of this system isn't replicated in all its glorious capabilities.
