When I upgraded my 8k's to v.2.63, I had compability issues. I had used the same coverter for my 818 and other processors without issues before.
I ended up with to use the Keyspan USA-19HS. I guess other adapters also work that use FTDi chipseth.

I use a Monoprice USB to Serial Adapter with my 861v2. I have had no problems connecting to my Macbook Pro running XP on Parallels. I also use a generic null modem cable.

Hi Tim, I was having some issues connecting to an HD621 with my USB to RS232 cable (it worked fine with my G91 and C61). My cable was an unbranded one from eBay. Meridian Technical recommended the Keyspan one. I was looking for one of these to set up my new HD621 & was tempted to buy one for pennies from eBay / amazon but reading this thread & Peter giving Meridian's suggestion means I've spent a bit more but am confident of getting the job done. Thanks all for the info.

Just for people browsing, some USB/Serial adapters now come with null modem functionality built-in. So these units will not require a separate null modem cable if plugged directly into kit. However, some cables, particularly speaker-link dongles, are wired in null modem form which, for cables requiring a separate null modem cable, is the correct configuration. However when these cables are used with null modem configured USB/Serial converters, such as the StarTach unit, an additional null modem adapter will also be required to negate the cross wired configuration in the USB/Serial adapter. You will need to check exact pin outs on each device to confirm the exact gender of adapter/cable required.

I tried using Prolific PL2303HX with my HD621 but can't make a connection... Dont know if it is the problem but some Prolific devices do not work with newer versions of OSX. They appear in OSX as a device OK, but dont work comms wise. That said, some FTDI chipset devices got bricked by an FTDI driver update under windows, intentionally designed to disable unlicensed devices. it wasnt just unbranded devices that got caught by this, some reputable brands got caught out due to dodgy chipsets in the supply chain.

I'm using it on Windows 7. It installed the driver OK and it claims it has a comms too, but it's not seeing the HD621 in Mconfig.

The Keyspan model that Adam suggested doesn't work for me either. I can't connect it to my G61R or HD621.
No idea what it could be. Super frustrating.

Perhaps my serial cable is wired incorrectly. Will look for a different one.
