All I can say to the folks that don't know which way to go on this topic is, so many people change there electronics or speakers to try and get better sound. They change components to tame a peak in the mids that sometimes never goes away because they do not try tweaking cables and or filtering power. Changing cables can help you voice your system the way you want it to sound. Room treatment! If you haven't treated your room for slap echo and early reflections then you may not hear the differences in cables for most if not all cases. Speaker placement goes hand in hand with room reflections. Power line noise like I said before can mask the affects. Someone with a problem system or one component that has a problem could try all types of cables and not hear the differences and thus come to the conclusion that cables make no change. An amplifier that has a gritty midrange can mask the affects of cables. The answer is cables are components just like the amplifier, preamp, speakers or CD/DVD player. One component bad could mess up the soundstage and you will not hear any differences.

Meridian makes great sounding equipment! The rest of the audio chain must be up to the sound quality of the Meridian digital front-end.

Go to a reputable high end audio dealer and let them show you the differences between the cable designs they carry. That will answer your questions and lift your doubts. I was skepticle in the beginning too! I did just that. Hang out at my local shop on the weekends and they let me try everything. I took home all types of equipment and cables to try. I learned a lot about matching amplifiers and speakers with cables to get the right timber and soundstaging. It's not always easy to match but trying a lot of different combinations over time taught me what I needed to know to make my system sound wonderful. Don't deprive your self of the gains you can enjoy from tweaking with cables if the rest of the system is up to par.
