As my old CD of Blakey's The Big Beat is copy protected (and all the tricks I could find did not allow me to get an Accurate Rip of it), I just bought the XRCD remastering. I have no idea what technologies they claim to use, but it's far and away the best sounding remastering of that era of Blue Note I have ever heard. (Probably like with SACD and other remasterings, it's the care taken with the basics which produces the difference, rather than any technologies or catch-phrases...) Anyone else tried them? Or does anyone recommend any other remasterings of this Blue Note era?

Alan Yoshida did the mastering on this series of CDs and they all sound superb. He also did the initial run of Blue Notes you can get from HD Tracks and Qobuz. The more recent HD issues have been done by Bernie Grundman and sound excellent as well. This is going for a bargain price if you want to explore further: Dexter Gordon - Go
