If this does come true then it will be particularly interesting to find out how much of the 5200SEs new life is down to the EBA. They never quite did it for me in plain vesion but I loved the SEs. It would be interested to hear how close a EBA firmware update can get them.

DSW's support EBA, as a rule of thumb all SpeakerLink DSP's will be able to run in an EBA enabled system. The only exception being the DSP420 which is an in wall version of the DSP33.

This is good. As the lows are lower than a 7200 (presumably) do they travel slower thus are sent earlier or about the same time as they aren't ported? Just curious.

I think it's more complicated than that. The longest group delay in the full-range speakers is not at the very bottom of the frequency range. The EBA delay is split into two parts, the upper level of the bass driver frequency range has a complex curve which is covered by a complex EBA delay structure, the lowest frequencies in the bass driver frequency range have a smaller, simpler curve, which is covered by a simpler EBA delay structure. And there's a patch in the middle which has no delay added, because it already has the longest delay period (and therefore defines what the artificial delays have to do).

Joel may correct me on this, but this was my understanding.

Whether the DSW displays the same kind of curve or not I don't know, but it's unlikely to be simpler (apart from perhaps because it is sealed baffle).

Thanks for all the info.

If I have understood correctly if you have DSP EBA fronts and centre and analogue rears the only presets for which you can have EBA are
1.Direct
2.Stereo

Hi Anthony,

Correct for two-channel material. However, bear in mind that each DSP preset uses a speaker layout. As you've probably gathered from the configuration program, there are three layouts: Music, Logic and 5.1 Movie.

What *I* would do in your scenario is to define the Music layout as only containing your two (at present) EBA speakers. This layout will be used for any "Music" DSP preset which includes (for two channel sources) Music, Trifield, Ambisonics, Super Stereo, Music Logic, PLIIx Music, Stereo, and Direct, and (for multi-channel sources) Discrete, PLIIx Mus6, and THX Music. Doing this gives you the option of listening to down-mixed multi-channel music (or even 5.1 movie or TV material) via your EBA speakers.

See pages 28-33 from the latest 861 manual.

Having said all that, with just main L/R speakers in the Music layout, you are only really interested in Direct and Discrete. Obviously, you will also need to configure EBA=on for both of these presets.

Hope that makes sense.

Late edit: Using non-Music layout presets with EBA=off will allow you to use all of your speakers for two or multi-channel material, if desired.

Great explanation.

So when I get my 7200SE and 5200HCSE I can set the music layout to have a L/R/C and have a modified Trifield.

Where in config do you define the different layouts

IIRC, it's the bass management section. There are three tabs, one for each layout.

Looking at the Bass management window I cannot see how to delete the rear speakers from the music layout.

You can define the size and you can display the bass flow for multi channel and two channel but there does not appear to be an option to have a L/R/C layout for music
