You cannot possibly AB similar speakers in the same room, if you want instant switching. They don't occupy the same space and thus room effects come into play.

I am making clamping rings for my speakers out of 3mm stainless steel on my CnC machines. I will tell you if they make a difference or not.

The inner circle is radiused to stop any diffraction.
As to EBA, I'm not sure exactly what it is, even after seeing Bobs video on them.

It seems to me to be some delay on the bass side of things?
Or is it phase and time alignment?

Today, with FIR filtering and programs like rephase, you can correct all aspects of the system in freq response as well as correcting phase. Other systems correct both time and freq - so what does EBA do?

My impression was that EBA delays the drivers progressively across the frequency range to compensate for the fact that a tweeter will start moving more rapidly than a woofer, i.e. it takes a few ms longer for a woofer to complete it's excursion to send out a sound than is the case for a tweeter.

So, a lot of delay for the tweeter, some delay for the mid, and no delay for the woofer, in order to allow even more precise sync across the full spectrum.

Cheers

George

It amounts to EBA 1 & 2 if you also keep track and call them 3, 4, 5 etc. over time. We will not be doing that so EBA is EBA. The original use of 1 & 2 was to highlight bass-only EBA and Full-Range EBA. This was wrong. EBA is EBA... afaik.

The stars were out last night in Encino, but Im still looking for that power lunch invite.
The mixer was held at Meridian partner Access Networks. There was lots of food. And drink. And there were SEs here and there but demos werent really on with all of the chatter and noise from clinking ice cubes. The penthouse patio has a 270 degree view of the mountain ranges north of LA. The skies were clear and it was a balmy evening.
Some would claim the SEs were the stars. Id say it was the Meridian cast on hand. I enjoyed warm and friendly conversations with Bob Stuart, Tim Ireland (CEO), John Buchanon (Sales Director) and Ken Forsyth (Product Director). I am dropping names here.

They said theyd kill me if I told anyone there is more product coming in this years pipeline! We should stay tuned. We could also ask pointed questions at the remaining two events in the US and all of those upcoming in the UK.

Ive been a Meridian customer since 1981. Im brand loyal and very encouraged about Meridians product development and marketing. They have assembled a high quality management team and are on a roll. Im glad to be watching and able to enjoy it all.

Please do tell as your secret is safe here. We know Meridian employers do not frequent this forum so they will never find out wink

OK. There is more product coming. Soon. Hope I live to see it! As for details, I know nothing because no one would say.

Everyone. I was fortunate to speak with Richard Hollingshead (Director of Engineering) yesterday at Meridian HQ. He confirmed that:

1) EBA aligns the group delay of all frequencies (and always has).

2) EBA in 7200SE is identical to that used in 7200.2 (and therefore uses the same MIPS).

3) Those extra MIPS in the SEs are used for something else(!) Perhaps we should ask him at Meridian West London on 1st May?

Thanks for the good info grin
From which extra MIPS you are talking in Q3 when the 7200SE MIPS are the same as 7200.2?

The extra MIPS from the extra DSP that the SE has vs .2

The 7200SE has twice the MIPs as the 7200.2.

I think the proportion between old and new is the same between 8000.2 and 8000SE as well. The increase between 5200SL and 5200SE may in fact be more than twice. The 8k got more MIPs when it went SL, whereas I don't think the 5200 did. (?)

Thanks, I was actually after what the (extra) DSP is, i.e. what it does, digital signal processing.
