Just to reiterate... Bob Stuart CEDIA 2013 Bob Stuart said EBA "realigns all the frequencies", "low notes high notes and mid notes". He was talking of the 7200.2. From the horses mouth. Anyone from M care to clarify (not holding breath)?

My understanding was that it time aligned the bass only on non SE speakers
Part of the SE upgrade was to increase the DSP processing power to allow for the EBA to able to time align all frequencies, certainly that is what I got from talking to Paul and Chris at the recent demonstrations
Russ I believe that Russ's comments above reflect the current thinking from those at Meridian. i.e. that the new SE Range will have a modified version of the previous EBA Firmware implemented... and Meridian believe that the change is a noticeable improvement from what was enabled previously.

Yes, shame it can't be a little clearer (did Bob get it wrong?).
FWIW the 7200.2 got a new DSP board, I understood that was to provide sufficient processing power for EBA (for all frequencies).

There was a bit of misunderstanding about EBA when the SE demo's were on the road initially. We (on HH) created the notion of EBA1 and EBA2 to make sense of that.
The SE demo's I think we're very much straight off the production line. Paul and Chris had only limited info in hand (or head) as the supporting SE was not yet published.
VK is correct AFAIK in that EBA is always aligning the whole presentation. There isn't a bass only version and an SE version that does the full range.
There is, however, an evolution going on with EBA getting tweaks over time. So, the SE version is most likely different from the original 7200.2. I think this is where the confusion may have started.
Also, EBA varies by DSP model so there will be different versions in that regard.
That's as I understand it.
Rgds, Nick

My understanding from first SE presentation was as follows. Hardware was fixed, however pending future software developments were likely to bring further improvements to the production items. This is entirely believable as promoted by Chris and Paul. No confusion here. Hector

If you time align the bass, you have to align it with something or it isn't aligned. So it either is or isn't in alignment. Perhaps the degree of the alignment is an area for improvement. How well it is aligned. Just rambling, Chris
No 18 in the Hall of fame I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

Now you mention it, how does/will EBA work with subs? As things are aligned to the bass, I would presume no adjustment needed or are they lower and slower and need sending on ahead? You know Meridian have though this through, it's what they do...

What will those 150 MIPS extra do? To provide for higher input rates? Or just massage the data twice? Good question. And why only double the MIPS? I thought we were now in a world of cheap BIPS. Would even more be even better?

Certainly at Bristol the 8ks were still work in progress and subject to further tweaking. But I have no certain knowledge about what exactly was being tweaked.

There was further interesting information in the Stereophile review about the new clamps: A new clamping system for drivers results in an even better behaved cabinet. Meridian claims that the only resonance you can detect is at 5Hz. This is below the threshold of human hearing, and also well below the level of those pesky port resonances that excite many a room's bass nodes. This attests to the thoroughness of Meridian's revision of the standard models to produce the new SEs. This has clearly been the result of very detailed and careful examination of the performance of the standard models. But the information quoted above suggests that it is even more of a shame that the new clamp rings are not available as a part of the upgrade packages.

It seems like a "Brailsford" approach to improved SQ, improve everything that can possibly make a difference and you end up with an improvement (about time to change the spikes how about something with a low atomic number...).
That being the case, how much audible difference do the rings make on their own? We'd need an AB in a good room (I think if Rick sold tickets for the shoot out, I'd probably buy one, at least he'd cover expenses then even if he sold no gear. Also new Oppo planar headphones are out...)
I wonder if it was 8ks with 5Hz?
(kits won't be out for a while in any event)
