There is an SE event in Los Angeles next week. Its in Encino, a tough rush hour drive up the 405. Its a meet and greet rather than a road show like the ones in the UK, Seattle and San Francisco. Dont know why theyve chosen a different format. Perhaps munchies and wine are expected by the LA audio market. The SE speakers will be present and playing, but not for critical listening. I cant complain, at least the SEs are coming this way. Maybe Ill get an autograph, or invited to a power lunch with a Hollywood star!

Thanks for posting. Is this the first time that we have heard that the 8kSE will go down to 20Hz?

The references to hi-res recordings at 176k and 192k are odd. Does the writer understand the technology or is he saying that the increased resolutions still provide improved (with respect to what?) sound quality after being converted to 24/96 by the 818? I may be over-thinking this...

Yep, for this thread just view them as very good quality files. Let's not get into a 192K v 96K debate in here.

Ken, et al,

I listened to both the 8000SE and the 7200SE pairs - so no Trifield. Imaging, soundstage and clarity were superb on both pairs. It was one of those times when I almost wished I hadn't as now I'll need to upgrade. smile

Anyone looking for .2 upgrades for their 7200s? wink

Hi,
In the UK the swapped out electronics and tweeter go back to Meridian, I believe it's the same in the USA.

Carl

If there's no differentiation in upgrade price between 7200.1s and 7200.2s, you could just swap your 7200.2 for Bill's 7200.1s down the road for and get the 7200.1s upgraded (assumes a perfect world).

It does highlight the anomaly

(or you could wait 18 months for the SE2s)

In all of their publicity material Meridian have emphasised the new, extended bandwidth of the SE models that make them especially suitable for high resolution recordings. We may wonder what is meant by this in the light of the above.

This is a good question. I would speculate that, having made incremental improvements in so many other areas, Meridian found that by increasing the bandwidth of the analogue electronics (for the sake of argument, from 25kHz up to 50kHz) further transparency could be achieved; but perhaps they were previously not at a level of fidelity where this improvement could be discerned.

Maybe the old brochure was correct... a future update will finally enable 192kHz wink
