James

Your experience is the same as mine and others. I don't think Nick's is working either in terms of being able to play the track, but I am sure he will confirm one way or the other later today.

Confirmed...it is just 500 mili-seconds in duration.

All other tracks seems OK.

Thanks Rick...please keep us posted if you hear any more.

File metadata is definitely unchanged on import. As Carl clarified, Sooloos import does things with album/track data but not the FLAC metadata.

Another question occurred - OK so I could use the files direct from the Sooloos store, but what if I, at some point in the future, wish to use something else but Sooloos - can those files be copied off the store onto, say, a NAS, with metadata intact which a streamer could use?

Sooloos store is just a NAS box. No need to even copy files off to use with a different system. Many people use their Sooloos files as the media library for other music systems. I have Sonos mapped onto my MC200 and they share the same files. The only issue are files ripped within Sooloos where you dont see the metadata - those ripped by other means like dBpoweramp, metadata works fine.

Thanks Ian, I actually didn't realise that - I thought the MC200 was kind of a closed eco-system. Very cool.

I'm actually finding ripping so much easier and quicker with dBpa (and MP3 tag is also awesome).

The current folder structure is not very intuitive in Sooloos so if migrating these files for another system it could be tricky. If you did migrate systems then I would use the export option and create a much more intuitive artist/album folder structure.
The folder structure is usually irrelevant though as most systems scan the meta-tags regardless.

Yes...dBpa and mp3tag is a great combo.

OK, thanks Nick. I'm not currently contemplating moving systems, but I really don't want to rip this lot ever again if I can possibly help it wink

Absolutely. It's a big job and hopefully you only do it once. Logically you have to then also think about your backup strategy to help prevent any re-ripping. Make sure you have that covered.

FWIW I keep a full clone of my MD600 on a NAS and also a full native export of the whole library on a USB twin drive.....and a recent clone of the library on spare HDD.

Cheers

Funny you should mention that - I recently bought a couple of spare HDDs and a clone dock for that purpose. My plan was to have a standard Sooloos backup on one disc and then another spare, and my thinking now is maybe I'll just have that be a backup of the original dBpoweramp files?

What I'd really like to know at this point is if there's an easy way to re-process the CDs I ripped before dBpoweramp just for the extra embedded metadata (i.e., can you fetch the same metadata as when you're first ripping the CD?). I've learned a lot about the process since I very first got Sooloos and it would be nice to have these match the others but without having to physically rip the disc again.

If you export the pre-dBpa rips they will get meta-tagged. Then re-import the albums using the replace option. Then all your library will have tags.

I did this a couple of years ago which allowed me to run squeezebox on the Sooloos library.

I had the same issue as yourself and have had pretty good results from mp3tag which I think that I learned about on this forum. I don't think that it queries AMG due to subscription costs but I live in hope that at some point PerfectTUNES will offer this functionality instead!

Certainly mp3tag is free, easy to use and worth at least a try.

Cheers,

Tony.
