Hey

Is it possible to connect a Media Source 600 to a QNAP NAS-Server and use an iPad for controlling it?

I would like not to have a Media Drive 600.

Jack - you need a Sooloos Core running on your LAN in order for the whole Sooloos system to work. If you want to migrate to a QNAP for the storage you must use a MC200 or perhaps Control:10/Control:15 to run as your Sooloos software Core.

Meridian has not released the ability to run Sooloos Core on the QNAP, only Storage.

That would be neat.

Sounds like a logical (smart) next step.

Suddenly all QNAP owners can get MS200 audio zones. More exposure to the brand much like Explorer.

More agile and streamlined ecosystem where Meridian focuses on audio endpoints instead of building servers.

I mean why should Meridian have to worry about harddisks eventually giving up in old or new Cores.

All while you can just get a fresh QNAP with 2.5" SSD RAID for ultimate in performance and quietness.

Yes and far more profitable than building bespoke servers. In my view Meridian should have made the Sooloos app available as OEM to the dozens of high end companies that are all now producing their own music servers years ago. Big missed opportunity. Now they should try and put it on more than just the QNAP. Imagine $10 for every home NAS or HTPC for the server app and then each one needing a Sooloos endpoint.

That is a shame.

If you even have a MD600 in your system and the MS600 you need a MC200 or Control:10 or Control:15 to control it even when you have an iPad?

What is the point them with the MS600 and MD600 if they can not stand alone in a system with a iPad to control it?

You are incorrect Jack, I believe you are misinterpreting posts.

MD600 + MS600 + iPad works just fine.
The MD600 is both Store and Core.

Going back to your original post.

No because there is no Core with this combination, an additional device that is capable of running a Sooloos Core is required.

Have a read of Sooloos Components page in our wiki for more details.

Carl

Okay :-D

With the combo MD600 + MS600 + iPad is it then possible to use an QNAP for additional storage?

What is the largest harddrive you can fit in the MD600?

Hi Jack

4TB disks work in the MD600 although I believe Meridian have only tested 2TB so that is what they officially support.

Russ,

I have read the same. It is kind of strange Meridian have not tested bigger hard drive.
