I can understand your point of view but am just curious whether you've made that decision on the basis of a comparative audition.

Thanks for the information, Paul.
I note that you do not include the 5k2HC on this list (unlike previous information).
Now that you are getting into the swing of things, when can we expect to see handbooks and data sheets?
I am sure there would be considerable interest in learning Bob's rationale behind such radical upgrades; and also how he evaluates the result.

I can understand your point of view but am just curious whether you've made that decision on the basis of a comparative audition. As far as I know there is currently no way to do a comparative audition as I don't know any dealers with upgraded 5200s. I have generally been happy with the 5200s save for the handling of bass so oddly enough the driver clamping ring was of great interest to me. Unless the difference is minor upgrading and not getting full spec 5200s for that price would sting a little. Selling the 5200s and adding the 4,750 to the proceeds wouldn't get me more than a few thousand away from just buying new SE speakers and I am sure that I could get a discount or some cable thrown in to make that option even more attractive. Added to that EBA hasn't been released for non-SE 5200s so that comparison is out too. Cheers, Tony

The HC is on the list.
I wonder whether the VCs are given the consecutive serial number on from pairs made before them which have A & B lettering?
Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.
Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

I think that those Meridian owner who upgraded to 7200.2 spec should be offered a discount by Meridian for the SE upgrade.
What do other HH's think?

Not really, it was indeed new tweeters, I'd rather have real development happening and released when available.
It did improve the DSP7200. No parts of the .2 kit can be reused in the new SE kits.

When you buy into an upgrade, there's an assumption there's nothing round the corner, not we're actually working on something else but that's secret. It looks a little cynical (to me).
Do we now assume the product cycle is 18 months? If so that would affect my decision to upgrade, as I daresay it would others.

I think that those Meridian owner who upgraded to 7200.2 spec should be offered a discount by Meridian for the SE upgrade. I think that this is fraught with difficulty. Where do you draw the line? Do you offer a discount to all .2 owners? Or just those who did the upgrade? What if you bought the 7200s second hand and then did the upgrade? Do you require that the upgrader is the original owner? Do you put a time limit on it for those that were "caught" by the SE product announcement? I'm fairly sure that Meridian will have considered this, but decided on a simple approach. Personally, if a discount was offered, my preference would be to restrict it to those who bought and upgraded 7200s through the same dealer, and who then go on to upgrade to SE through the same dealer. However, if you were to go back to the dealer who did your .2 upgrade, I would be surprised if you weren't able to work something out. Every dealer worth his or her salt is interested in building long term client relationships which benefit both parties. Which kind of amounts to the same as my discount preference.

How do other vendors deal with this problem? With a clear typical life cycle. No hard commitments, but a normal somewhat predictable cycle. For HW 18 months is not that uncommon.
On the software side, cycles are typically faster and have more a minor/major release cycle.
I think Meridian would solve a lot of the complaints I see on the forum by becoming predictable in their cycles.....

I'm much more concerned about how they deal with DSP5200 owners of series 1 & 2. Atm they are left in the cold.
