Then you're not doing it right, because it has worked quite often for me over the past few years. Were you padding the ID to 10 characters?

Yes Ludwig, I am using all 10 characters. I have tried with and without the mw prefix of the URL, which doesn't help either. If you wouldn't mind trying yourself currently, I would be delighted to know that there's some step I'm doing wrong or missing. My strong suspicion is that this feature is currently broken.

Cheers, Ian

Hi Ian,

Ludwig was replying to Jobseeker's comment that he has never managed to get it to work.

Yes, it worked in the past with the AMG ID padded to 10 chars... it no longer works with the "new" ID or the old ID (which is now hidden from the HTML interface).

I believe a big part of the problem is that AMG has been migrating and converting their system to a new system and there is not a stable middleware layer providing a consistent API to access the information, or perhaps Meridian cannot afford to license access to that system (or integrate the new API into their current model).

Hopefully the revenue M provides AMG is large enough that whatever the show stopper is, they can work together to resolve it and fix the plugin and the AMG ID lookup issues they currently have.

If you haven't complained to your dealer about these issues, perhaps now would be a good time. I would also suggest to M they provide a twitter @account for "real time" complaints about service issues like this.

Sonos aggressively uses social networks, M. does for PR-like stuff, it would be nice to extend some support in a way like this or perhaps a direct support sub topic on this forum.

As I speak I am ripping a CD with the 'import CD' function of Control:PC, my usual way of ripping to MDMS.

Works flawless, always has.
Cheers!

I wouldn't know about the last few years - I've only had Sooloos for a few months. Thanks for letting me know I'm doing it wrong though.

From your wording it seemed like a long-term problem you'd had for longer than any metadata service blip. Sorry for any misunderstanding. smile

I'm currently having no problem with normal metadata lookups although I haven't had to try any manual lookups recently myself.

To be honest, sorting out the non-functioning 'prefer local metadata' would be the best thing M could for me personally. That's one that seems to have been running quite some time, as many have said.

I ended up with Naim streaming originally as I decided that Sooloos hadn't quite got to the point where I could live with it, plus I didn't like the direction that M appeared to be taking. I have it now because it appeared that Sooloos had got to the point where I could live with it and M seemed to be changing it's philosophy somewhat.

Irritations aside, I haven't regretted it so far. Let's hope that M stays on the ball with Sooloos development in all areas, including the user experience, which I consider to be critical in any streaming set-up.

Perhaps I had missed it before but the Information panel under Control:PC Settings shows:

"Portions of content provided by All Music Guide copyright Rovi Corporation".

Is this new?

I believe I stated in another thread that manually entering the ID wasn't working for me either a while back and still isn't.

With a bit of free time this weekend, I imported 5-6 albums. of those all were properly identified except for 1.

I "unalbumized" and recreated it and to my surprise it was recognized. I did it so fast though, that I can't be sure if there were loose tracks in the list below before re-albumizing. From memory, no, but can't be sure.

1) 568.2mm, 7K's, 5K5HC, 4x420's, D2500, MS200, moded Oppo BDP, Epson5020 FP
2) 218, 5200SE, DSW
3) MC200 core & MS200s to HK PA4000 house distribution

When albums get un-albumized and track split, I nearly always find that there is a weird bit of track-meta that has thrown the tracks out. In these cases I do a quick tidy in mp3tag and then they go in straight.

e.g. the album title at meat level is not identical. This is quite common in downloaded albums where the record label has been sloppy with the tags.

The re-grouping of tracks into album always works pretty well if you are confident all the album tracks are present.

Rgds,
Nick
