Hi everybody,
I am thinking about purchasing the G65. Any impressions? Have there been any reviews?
Thanks a lot.

Frode on here bought one recently.
I have no doubt that it's a brilliant bit of kit. If you do a Search for "G65" on here you will find some discussions about it.
Good luck.

I have read pretty much about G65 online. Maybe someone compared it against the 861? I think Mr Sukebe wanted to do that. I could probably get a used 861 v4 for about the same price. Can the G65 be upgraded in the future, is there a chance that the 8 channel input will be allowed?
Thanks

You never know the future with Meridian. Buy for the spec now and don't expect anything in the future. Sometimes they pull the occasional software feature out of the bag, but G series has been around for a while now so firmware core is likely to be fairly mature.
Historically, G series is not hardware upgradable. The 6-8 channel limitation dates back to original G series. That 8 channel never appeared in their most recent revision is evidence that it is probably a G series architectural limitation.
As for G95 and 861v4, i would say that they both are unable ever to take 8 channel, ever.

Sorry, do I understand it correctly that the 861v4 can not be upgraded to the v6 or v8?

Yes that's correct, you can't upgrade 861v4 to 861v6 (or 861v8).
You can however upgrade 861v6 to 861v8.
The 861v4 can have a linear power supply installed (also found in 861v8) to improve performance over a 'standard' 861v4.

Correct. There was a trade-in offer when the v6 was released, but v4 cannot (officially) be upgraded to v6 or v8. In theory, if you could obtain all the correct cards (which is doubtful), I guess you could do it yourself, but it would probably be prohibitively expensive.
Any dealer worth his or her salt will do a trade-up deal though.

Hi,
My setup is currently under re-install, including changing speaker placement, wall improvements etc. I guess the changed speaker placement has a bigger impact than going form G61 to G65 as I did.
Happy so far, anyway.

Did we not come to the conclusion that there is a major architecture difference between 861v4/G6X and 861v6/8 to accommodate the eight chanel input? So even if you had a complete v6 card set, plugging it into the older backplane wouldn't work or wouldn't give full v6 functions.

Why does anyone "need" any of this stuff? That isn't the point. I think if you look at some of the bleeding edge processors, you have processors that have 16 channels. The new Dolby Atmos allows for multiple front, side and even speakers on the ceiling, to allow for height. That is before you add in multiple subs.
Primary: MD600, MS200 (SpeakerLink to AES), Trinnov ST-2, Ayre V6-xe, Salk SS8 3x LRC. Secondary: MC600 (whole house). Zone one: 568.2, G57, MS200, Spatial Hologram M2SE. Zone 2-6 (Awaiting assignment).
