I just want to check if I am doing this correctly. When taking SPL reading on the subwoofer with speaker calibration, should I still adjust to 75dB? It just happens that I have a -10dB correction with the subwoofer, which just happens to be the expected gain.

Many thanks.

I was told by a Meridian Premium Partner, that he adjusts the sub by ear so it sounds right. if you are happy with the sound then leave it. I tried adjusting my meter to see if I could get the correct reading, but I couldn't. I called him and he said as long as it sounds right, (which it did) leave it.

I got 75dB with a meter easily so used that. All sounds correct here. Chris smile

If you adjust the level of the sub by ear, I thought you need to subtract 15dB to compensate for the reduced sensitivity of low frequency perception.

I always adjust the sub level by ear using music.
SPL meters dont pick up the sub that great.

You are right about low frequency perception - hence the need for a Hard Knee House Curve setup on the sub.

MRC and using REW and REW EQ filters allow you to do this with a little practice.

Hi Shaun,

I have fixed the broken link. It had "http://" appended to it, most likely due to a copy/paste error.

Regards,
Carl

No worries, it happens to us all; I like to test the URL Tags after I've posted as a double check.
