DSP8000 Anniversary owners. What would be the upgrad price for us, as we have about 60% of the upgrade already.

Hi all,
I had been contemplating a move to 7200.2 from my 5200's just before the SE announcement. My 5200's were purchased a few months before SL was introduced, so hoping they are 'new' enough for an upgrade to SE should I go that route. However, regarding the 7200.2, with the exception of the new tweeter on the SE and no ring clamps, what else changes as I thought the .2 got new processor boards as part of the upgrade. Are the new SE boards a further step up the the sound quality ladder on the .2's?
Great to see Meridian supporting customers of older kit, definitely time for some serious auditioning!
Dave

I though the main item of the 7200.2 upgrade was the new tweeter (new DSP board to run it).

Rick from Audio Images stated that it was only some "very early" 5k2s that would not accept the new boards. I'd be fairly confident Dave that your pair will be OK.
Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.
Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

Some early 5.2k's had a different bevel for the display. Is this an indicator as to whether the case is suitable?

Hi Dave,
I think you'll be fine with the DSP5200 if they were new only a few months before SL were released.
The 7200.2 had a change in Comms board so the crossover was matched to the change in sensitivity of the new tweeter.
The SE variants to my knowledge have fully reworked amplification and DSP, which is why the entire back panel is replaced in the upgrade.
Cheers,
Rick

We're not sure yet about which speakers will accept the SE upgrades, more details are needed from Meridian. I'm afraid I don't have any pointers to what may and may not be suitable. Other than I'm almost certain all SpeakerLink variants will be fine. Rick

Do we know how the upgrade process is going to work?
Will this be an on-site dealer-installable option?
Sending DSP8000s around the country is logistically challenging! Especially when there are no crates.

For an 8k its just loosen some screws for the backplane and take care with disconnecting cables and the heavy load of the backplane. But of coarse its not for everybody. A dealer with some basic technical skills can do it. On other models i have no experience ,-))

Hi Gianni,
Almost certainly, we have upgraded many DSP7200 to .2 specification at our customer's homes.
It will consist of replacing the tweeters and then exchanging the complete electronics back panels, in fact an easier process than the 7200.2 upgrade which required a single board swap on the electronics.
Cheers,
Rick

Thanks Rick.
Given the apparent magnitude of the upgrade, may one enquire what the warranty period would be and what would it cover?

The warranty for the upgrade will be the same as for new speakers, so 2 years for the DSP5200 and DSP7200, plus another year if registered with Meridian, and 3 years for the DSP8000 plus another 3 if registered with Meridian.
The warranty on the upgrade will cover the entire speaker, not just the upgraded parts.
Cheers,
Rick
