Hi,
I know there have been some discussions about in which order to place the Radiance vis a vis the HD621 but it has been in sort of a random way in other threads. Out of curiosity, I'd like to seek views from HH'ers in one thread.
I currently have one of my HT systems with the Radiance in front of the HD621 so the Radiance does the HDMI switching and the HD621 and M processor (G65 in this case) stay on the same input all the time. In my main HT room I have the HD621 in front of the Radiance.
My experience is that the Radiance in front of the HD621 is more stable, trouble-free, and provides more options, like if you want to listen to music but have the TV or a BR on with no sound at the same time.
I find that with the HD621 in front I sometimes have handshake problems or something that causes the M processor (the 861 in my case) to have some problems switching. So I've decided to put the Radiance in front of the HD621 in both my set ups.
What are your experiences/views?
Thanks.

I've tried both but currently it's HD621 before my XS.
It used to be the other way around but I had problems with one source going to my Lumagen. In addition the HD621 has 6 HDMI inputs as opposed to 4 on the XS
Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.

My Radiance XD has always been before my HD621, mainly to minimize the length of the HDMI chain. However, I'm considering getting a Darbee Darblet and, if I do, the best (long) chain would be Sources -> HD621 -> Darblet -> Radiance -> Projector

...or the expensive option: to trade up to one of the Darbee-enabled Lumagens

I'm trying to avoid the expensive option! (At least until 4k shakes out.)

I previously had Radiance in front of HD621 with no problems.
In my current simpler setup, the Radiance isn't in use. If I try to switch the Mac Mini through the HD621, it is as if it has to keep reestablishing the handshake every 1-2s. No problem with direct HDMI into the TV.
I should try putting the Radiance back in the chain, but space is tight.
Cheers, Ian

VK, I don't see why you think with a Darblet that it would be better to put the HD621 before the Radiance. What's the logic?
I currently have the following chain: Radiance, HD621, Darblet, projector. I don't like it because, as i mentioned, it limits mixing and matching audio and video outputs which is something I like to do sometimes, and I've had some apparent handshaking issues with it from time to time.

Ian, How can you live without the Radiance!!

Cliff, So you don't have any glitches with the HD621 before the Radiance in your current set up?

Not at present. I did have one handshake problem with one source (Panasonic sat receiver connected via 5m cable) which was solved by adding a HDMI booster. My current Humax receiver is fine.
Edit: I do have to force players to deliver 3D Bluray as my projector's EDID (I can play 3D) seems to get lost going through both the HD621 and XS.

I don't see why you think with a Darblet that it would be better to put the HD621 before the Radiance. What's the logic? The logic is that the Darblet should work better with the direct output from sources rather than the (considerably) calibrated video. The HD621 would be needed in that scenario for switching. Think of it this way: The Radiance deliberately makes the video worse for a perfect display, but perfect for the display that you have calibrated for. Having said that, I don't have a Darblet and if it works with gamut- and luminance-distorted output, great!

VK, I thought I remember reading in the Darbee info that the Darblet is best placed at the end of the chain just before the display device. Either I don't remember well or they were not taking into account that you might have an external video processor in the chain?
