When it was first announced, I thought this might be a groundbreaking product for adding value to existing products (e.g., MS200) enabling PSU upgrades much as Naim do, but it seems increasingly that it's more and more redundant for these purposes. What exactly are the extra power outlets for?

What makes it redundant for powering an MS200?

It's not redundant. You just end up with an over-engineered product that has 4 spare 12V outlets that I'm not convinced you can even buy a ready-made lead for. Wouldn't they have done better to cut the number of 12V outlets and increase the number of USB points (may be an issue with noise?).

The current M units that can be powered by the 12V outputs are the:

- Prime Headphone amp
- AC200
- MS200

Realistically the only combination of these that would take two 12V power outs from the PPS is a very simple MS200 to Prime Headphone Amp via analogue system.

I bet it would sound great, but we'll never know since one simply can't buy the power lead for it...

You can get a power lead professionally made to your own length. The drawing are on site.
So, yes you can buy them. Chris smile

GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

Spare power cables aside, this seems like a perfect solution for my needs. I'm currently using a Source:Five to drive 5 zones around the house, via non-M amps and speakers. I'm thinking of replacing the Source:Five, which doesn't handle high res files all that well (among other things) with 5 MS200s. Using the PPS, I can power those MS200s with a quality power supply instead of wall warts.

Seems like a perfect reason to have 5 power outputs to me!
Unless I'm missing something (besides spare cables).

Does your solution need long runs of low voltage between power supply and MS200's? If so, the benefits of the Prime amp may be offset by losses in the long runs of low voltage.

Wouldn't you have the five MS200s co-located with the Prime Power Supply and Cat 6 the digital around the house?

Well there are a number of options are there not?

Locate MS200 next to device and benefit from not sending audio over long distance of cat5 with option of powering via SpeakerLink from audio device, i.e. DSP or processor.

Locate a pod of MS200's to replace the Source:Five and potentially benefit from Prime supply at expense of possibly having to re cable for digital audio from that point to each audio device. Source:five only has one digital out so converting from analogue to SpeakerLink may be non trivial where as network availability near audio devices may be easier to accommodate.

As above but instead of digital audio, maintain analogue out. Would this be a retrograde step AQ wise moving from Source:Five to MS200.

If it was me, I would try to locate MS200 next to each audio device and keep the final run short especially as it's likely to be analogue with non Meridian zones.

Agree... seems that this was heading towards a centrally located set of MS200's. A bit weird if I understood that.

These are designed to be used in each zone as very disctete network driven devices.

Can the MS200's be powered by a generic Power over Ethernet switch?

My understanding was that the power option for the MS200 came from the SpeakerLink connection, not the Ethernet connection.

Happy to be contradicted.
