Can the app be configured to send and listen on a different TCP / UDP port?

I want to use a different IP to RS232 device, like the Keene IR Commander with RS232 output - here is the advice I got back from Keene.

Cheers
Pete

Hi Pete,

Sorry but there are no current plans to support hardware other than the Global Cache iTach IP2SL.

There would be 'more to it' than simply changing the port as there is some handshaking negotiation between the iPad and Network to RS232 device.

To specifically answer your question, there is no way for a user to alter the port numbers in the App.

Cheers,

Rick

Thanks for the prompt reply.

It is suggested on the virtualMSR web site that other devices *may* work, so I guess I'll give it a bash with some port forwarding at play.

Does anyone know the port number used by the app? I can probably find out with a port scanner, but it would save me the trouble if anyone knows.

Cheers

Google is your friend

If you have Mac and compatible USB/Serial converter I have a iTach emulator that you can try first with

After a little trouble, due only to me. I have installed the vMSR, I give it 4/5 and when an iPhone and customisable buttons are added 4.5/5.

Thanks to Rick for his advice.

Rick sent me an IP2SL yesterday.
I took it out of the box, plugged it in just now and vMSR found it straight away no problems. No configuration or anything.
Now I can adjust lip sync in my chair and see the value on my iPad directly. Great!

For info the IP2SL is USB powered from my MC200 (to reduce the number of power bricks in my system). So far so good....

I was just about to say exactly the same thing (although it was Henry who posted mine from Barnsley)

Even better is that I'm using the USB port on the back of my Sky receiver to power it, so no messing about finding a plug for the power supply.

Can I use a Serial to USB connector to use vMSR with an AC200?

I just wanted to give a big thumbs up for this product. Awesome. Makes my Meridian system feel like it's part of this decade. Interestingly when it craps out it's not the unit that needs a reboot, it's the 568.2mm! No big surprise.

Great tip about powering off USB! I used the USB port on my Oppo. Works a treat, as they say...

Rick - I couldn't see an answer to john's question about the WF2SL. Will that work instead of an IP2S? i am a little port-constrained on the ethernet side and would prefer to use the physical connections for the more data heavy, (typically streaming) devices.

Thanks in advance,
(Another) Duncan

Duncan

I'm about to port my ip2sl emulator to RaspberryPi over the next week. I'm already using it for another serial - wifi connection (to monitor my Solar panels) so have proved the concept of using Pi for 24/7 serial/wifi conversion.

I think you said that you had a pi (or was it Dominic?) so maybe an alternative and with pi bare board at under 30 plus few other bits some of which you may already have, it should be a more cost effective (and more flexible) alternative to WF2SL.
