Those will be the new driver clamp rings.

I've seen them Anniversary Edition 8k's, it's interesting to see them on those 7k2's in the same photo.

I can't make them out on 5k2's, though I'm sure this is just down to the DSP being white and the camera angle.

Regards,
Carl

There is a high res picture of all 3 DSP's on the Meridian Media Website.

On this, it's clear that these Driver Rings are now in place on all 3 DSP's and that the "ridges" are now bevelled.

Just like the Driver Units on the Anniversary System.

Thanks Ronnie,

Just had a look and yes, zooming in on that image one can clearly see the outline of the silver clamp ring again the white body of the DSP.

Did Meridian demonstrate (play) the SE DSP's at CES, or were they just displayed? If played, are there any show reviews?

Cheers, Ian

Most responses to the announcement of the SEs have concentrated upon the new tweeters. This is understandable. Over a number of years people here have criticised the standard-issue tweeters, including a lengthy discussion with a Magico fan. The counter argument was that Meridian know these tweeters inside out and enhance their performance with DSP, custom-tuned to their characteristics.

However, what may well prove more important to most owners, and the development of new products, is the introduction of new oscillators. These helped transform the performance of recent 800 series products. If they became more widely applied, and were used in combination with EBA, then Meridian could have outstanding products at non-SE prices.

All sounds laudable & a welcoming update. However noticed that the Horizontal systems - e.g 7200HC seem to be left on the back burner. Anyone heard anything about their upgrades??

I'm really curious to hear if these improvements make a positive difference to the 'slow' bass I found the 5200s to have - will the EBA and reinforced driver rings help this, for example? I loved the speakers in other respects and would have them again in a heartbeat if the bass were faster and cleaner...
