my progression with Meridian is remarkable simalar to yours. I started with a 551, and then added in a 556 to bi amp with no problems what so ever with gain etc. I used the 556 to drive the bass units but the increase in clarity air etc was well worth the upgrade.

porsche944,

Use the 551 connected to the HF unit while connecting the 556 to the woofer (my set-up).

I have Nautilus 804s. Previously used with a legacy Musical Fidelity A100 integrated 50W class A - sounded good. Now used with a Meridian G91/G57 biwired in a stereo only setup. Awesome.

I have a pair of Nautilus N802s' although to be honest both the N803 and 804 all like being driven with a little extra power.

I really noticed the difference in clarity and depth when I added a Rotel RMB-1095 (5 x 200w) power amp to drive the N802s.

If you are looking at either of the N803 or N804 I would strongly suggest one of the Meridian power amps to accompany them.

Thanks for all the info guys. I've got a shortlist of speakers to audition, so I'll have to call in to music matters in a few weeks time and arrange it. I think it'll come down to either ML Aeon i or Nautilus 804s. The biggest issue is the room only being 12' wide, and getting enough wall clearance.

Cheers,

David

For speakers in your price range, I would definately listen to the PMC OB1 a transmission line speaker with an amazing base response and in complete contrast, the Wilson Benesch Arc which has the sweetest treble on any speaker - bar none. (Both about the 2.5K)

You could alway try Anthony Gallo Reference 3's. They are getting rave reviews just now and look like the dogs dangly bits.
