Wow interesting topic, I never knew.

But not sure of the end-product and its toxicity confused otherwise I would have expected (forget about mainstream) fringe or scarce reports on negative consequences & use of such materials in our daily life.

My 2 cents.

Kishore

From my brief research (yes on the web) it appears that the end product i.e. the tweeter is of negligible risk to us users.

Focal have been using such tweeters for longer than Meridian and are happy that they do not provide a user risk. However the manufacture of these devices is risky and requires great care... should we not be concerned with the employees of the driver manufacturers and not ourselves catching an incurable disease? (Well a different viewpoint.)

Beryllium dust is dangerous that is no doubt on that.
The tweeter have no beryllium dust so no danger here for the user.

But that is not the point, it's a basic point to use toxic/dangerous material or not, all over the world.

It could be done and has been done for many years now, the problem is that money drives all bad. So nobody is interested to protect people, only laws can regulate that. And laws are done from politics finally, and we all know the ethic and cleverness of politicians. Therefore only the last link in the chain can try to move things but is also driven from his "surround".

So you should have respect when people take care of another people even if it looks senseless on the first view. So just argue that already happened all over the world and products, only help that people they don't' care about another people. But maybe that cynical argument protects the poster from himself..
So not buying such products will help when everybody will do it and all the industry, but sadly that is not even a future dream...

The only thing is to force good laws to protect people in the manufacturing area but the production is done mostly somewhere in the world where even laws is science fiction.
But who really moves for the rights of another people?
We are just closing our eyes and mute our brain.

I know all that is very well known, but if nobody talk/acts about that, nothing ever will get changed.

I am also buying all that stuff and don't move for the rights, and need a kick in my ... to not only speak and write and do nothing.

I am sure there are executives at M that are aware of the human health risk posed by Beryllium. Any manufacturer wishing to shop their wares in the EU is required to assess the content of hazardous materials in their products and disclose those risks to the government.

I am likewise sure that the tweeter manufacturer has taken extreme precautions to protect their employees from exposure to this very light and toxic metal.

As with all hazardous materials, the danger to an individual or a population is the effect the material can have on you, how large the dose you receive is for a one time event or over an extended period of time to have that effect, and, most importantly, the ability of the material to be transported into the body.

Beryllium is a solid metal that has no mobility unless it is disturbed. Even if you picked up the metal and ate it, it would likely pass through without getting into your bloodstream. The risk with Beryllium is inhalation of its dust and having it accumulate in your lungs. This is very unlikely in a consumer product just like for any metal (except mercury but that's a whole different topic).

We are all at much more risk of exposure to toxic materials by pumping our own gasoline, whether the gas station has vapor collection or not. Benzene, toluene, xylene and ethyl benzene are organic liquids that vaporize quite readily and can easily transport themselves into our bodies and be absorbed into our tissues.

Per, I respect your opinion and I'm not trying to diminish your position, but there is a lot more involved than the fact that a toxic substance is used to produce a product.

Regards,
Bill

I have another toxic substance that we are all under daily and it is very harmful to some in the wrong dose.

SUNLIGHT !!!!!

Anything if over dosed can be harmful I am pretty sure M did their homework and it is probably in such small amount that it is not harmful as stated earlier for the end user.
