The new Chailly/Gewandhaus Brahms Symphonies on Decca are really excellent. I'm hearing lots I've never heard before, thanks to a very lean and contrapuntal hearing of these pieces. These are the kind of performances which prove the value of continuing to perform and record this repertoire�

They're available as 24/96 downloads in various places on the web. Mine came from HighResAudio who provide a PDF booklet which is formatted for a landscape screen, so perfect for iPad. Very cool touch. (Don't know if that's Decca or the website's work.)

The same team's Beethoven symphonies are also very good indeed.

Queen, another one bites the dust, I just played it from the Hollywood remaster (the Game) on my Sooloos.
The sound effects make great use of all the surround channels you have.
It would be a waste to play this in vanilla stereo.

Tomaz Stanko - Dark Eyes.

Track 2 (called Terminal 7) is the opening theme music for Homeland - hints of Miles Davis there.

It's Polish jazz on ECM which may raise some concerns for some but it synthesies dichordant noodling with some engaging melodies, both up-beat and late night. The recording provides excellent sound quality with lots of breathy lips on trumpet and drumstick on cymbal edges apparent (copyright: Audiophile magazine circa 1995).

Listening to Joe Bonamassas amazing 4 gig adventures at 4 different venues in London this spring. The power trio show at The Borderline is a terrific show. The other shows are Shepherd's Bush, Hammersmith Apollo and Royal Albert Hall. Available individually or together in a boxset mini Marshall Amp on DVD or Bluray a true genius in his prime.

What/Who did you discover in 2013?
I will kick this off with 3 artists that have been collected and regularly played here in 2013
The late Isaac Guillory 7 albums (thanks to ChrisLayerUK for this recommendation)
Marc Cohn 5 Albums (I did not know he wrote "Walking in Memphis")
Bruce Guthro 2 Albums (another great Canadian singer songwriter).
Maybe 14 (or more) great discs to consider for 2014.

Nearly forgot SUS (thanks again hector (Berlioz, not house))

Most surprising album this Christmas for me - Cat Power, You are Free. I played it on a whim when in the kitchen (F80 connected to my MS600). Played only a few times before and some time ago, but what a revelation. Also beautifully produced and my F80 has seldom sounded so good - sometimes it is just so musical.

Hardly a Christmas album and likely not to everyone's taste, but a good to be alive moment for me.

Reference SUS, if you like Reggae this London based band are fantastic. I have had the pleasure of working in the same company with Derwent Bent the base player for the last few years, he and the band are very cool and the album IMO "The Real Deal" is exceptional. PM me if you have any problems locating this.

I know it has been VERY heavily promoted, but I heard an excerpt on the radio here in NYC and recently downloaded the whole play list via HDtracks. It really is very stunning. Admittedly, I have not had the chance to play on the stereo, only on the headphones.
