Yes - there's tons of space in a G68.

Probably yes - all the M processors seem to share the same three voltage rails (though there's no reason why they wouldn't have added a 3.3V rail to the mix in a new design).

Probably not - why cannibalise sales of the new processor by upgrading the old one?

If anything the 861LPSU would probably fit and work in a G68 and I know of no-one who's bought one for this purpose.

I tried to order from digi-key... not possible, can only be shipped within US due to export restrictions!!

The suggested alternate is the MINT3110A0508K01.
But it doesn't seem to be a linear one?

edit: switch mode, not linear.
Will look on eBay for local availability ...

When the 861v6 was released, it was asked whether an ID40 could be installed in a v4. At the time, it wasn't reportedly possible due to architecture differences. By the time the v6 to v8 ID41 transition came along, M found a way of retrofitting the ID40 to the v4. It seems reasonable to hope that the new linear PS will be made available for the G68 series, but it may take a while.

Scored a HCBB75, it is on its way. Anyone any tips on how to install it in a non desctructive way in a G68?

There's always a chance the LPS now seen in the new G65 might become available to customers as an option when having a health check done?

Thanks. There are clear guides and pics on changing the standard PSU on a G68. And I have actually performed that replacement a little while back.
However, I am now looking at installing a non standard linear PSU. I know this has been done by some HitchHikers and was curious whether there were any tips.
I already searched but could not find any concrete ones, but will do another search.

Hmmm. I spent almost all my spare time in 2011 working out how to do this, and posted everything I learned - for free - into this thread so everyone else could benefit.

It's a nearly non-destructive fitting. You do need to drill some holes in the base, very carefully, but that's no biggie. You may also need to trim the rubber feet slightly.

Clearly shows the construction approach you took, will get me on my way.

The only remaining question is on the modification needed on the HCBB75 in order to plug in the G68 power cables, but I'll find out when the linear PSU lands on my doorstep.
