The black looks cheap compared to the silver finish. Not an option for me.

No I have not but then I don't like Ayre, Krell, D'Agostino, dCs , YG or Lamm in black so I am guessing that a black aluminum C15 in the flesh won't look any better than the photos.

I often find some items "in the flesh" have a beauty that cannot be conveyed in a photograph, no matter how good the camera or viewing device.
That may not be the case here, but best to view it first.
Thoughts, Chris smile

The photo above is in any case a fake, right?

I have both black and silver, and sorry to say the black is just a beauty.

If you have not seen them both a picture does not do the black version justice.
I take offense when you call the black cheap witout even having seen it!

Just my 2 black cents

Is it a new black C15 or the older special edition?
If new, is there anything new on it, relative to prior C15?

I am sorry that you take umbrage with my design tastes. I was offering my take that black aluminum audio gear looks cheap. As I noted in my follow up post it is not limited to this one Meridian piece. It doesn't bother me when someone doesn't like the looks or sound of my gear.

As a C15 owner - honestly I am surprised the C15 is still available with its aged 4:3 ratio plastic covered resistive touchscreen that requires a substantial prod to actuate it, noisy hdd and flaky CD-drive and pretty much non-existent integration with other Meridian kit.

Would have thought the iPad app would have done for it tbh.

Good luck to Meridian if there is still a market for it, it is not a bad unit, indeed it remains almost unique in format, but to my opinion Meridian have usurped it with later incarnations of MDMS offerings.

I also own a control and am really pleased with it.

Yes the iPad app is kind of the same but in my view the control works much faster to scan through large collections of music. The ability to rip a CD down via the unit is good in principle but I seldom use. Would be ok for someone who is not PC or Mac orientated.

The thing that let's it down is the old style resistive screen. This badly needs updating and it would be nice if Meridian did an upgrade program to allow users of Control:10/15 to be able to upgrade to a better screen in the future.

Another issue is the cost! I only have the Control:10 which does not have storage unlike the Control:15. It would seem most turn off this storage anyway and upgrade their TwinStore drives to accommodate. With ID40/ID41 installed in 861 then the control is little more than a nice interface so it's a bit too expensive to appeal when you can do the same on iPad!

Just my view

Tim
