I just tried to connect the trigger (G68 -G55). It doesn't do anything to my setup either. Tried both low&high (although as the manual says, it should work right out of the box), and also tried all 3 trigger outlets (on the G68).
And unfortunately, I havn't got a meter to check if there is any voltage coming out when switching on/off..
I use the trigger from a G68 to switch a Parasound amp, and this works fine.
I can think of at least 2 things to check: - Are the + and - leads connected correctly? - Did you configure the trigger settings for all sources you use with the setup program?
I purchased a cable with two mini-jack plugs (mono) on each end, so it should have the same polarity each side. I just want the G55 amp to switch on/off when I do the same with the G68. If what the manual says (which is very little) it should work without any tweaking. I did however try the high/low setting (properties of the G68 device on the setup program)and didn't work. And I can not see any other option anywhere.
MRC, and speaker configuration with the DBmeter and A(8) port work just fine, as well as anything else tried including the phantom device for the sacd.
Ha! I found what it was with the trigger at last - after selecting "high" on all sources and saving (downloading) the conf to the G68, you need to do a hard reset (ie flick the rear on/off switch. After I did that, it worked
All this time, I used the front on/off switch and the soft reset from the menu - that's why I didn't have any results..
did you get the trigger to work (after reading the above)?
After a few days of playing with the G68-G55, I must say that the sound is excellent and I am stunned by the ease of use/configuration of my new "toys". I played around with the speaker configuration, distances of speakers, and MRC and at the moment the results justify the cost. I am planning to do a more thorough room correction & speaker calibration, as well as sound measure the room and acoustic treat it accordingly.
I still believe that two G55's will make my system sound better, but I have to wait a little for that ..
The 559 is more powerful in wattage terms than the G57 but an older design. They reckon the G57 edges it on sound... which is really saying something. The 559 has an amazing dynamic range. The 558.2 is brilliant but noticeably less smooth than the 559. It is conversely twice as powerful (on paper) as the G55 but if it sounds better, it might be worth considering. Anyone know why the new amps are lesspowerful than their forebears ?
There's a fairly simple answer to this question. I spoke to the local Meridian distributor here last week and discussed the new G-series amps amongst other things. The reason the G-57 is less power is due to that fact that the G-57 isn't a replacement for the 559 at all. The 559 is not that older model and is therefore not due to be replaced by a G series counterpart any time soon. If the 559 shared it's design with the 557, which it doesn't, I might be more inclined to believe a dealer that reckons the G57 sounds way better than the 559. I also have my doubts that Meridian would want it's more expensive amp to be shown up by the a newer, cheaper model.

after 15 days of "playtime", the sound has settled and is MUCH MUCH better, if not excellent. However, I still believe that there is something wrong, cause the G55 gets overheated. It gets TOO warm and after a while, I get clipping and have to lower the volume down. For some reason, even after the speaker calibration @75db, MRC etc, the BW804's really wake up after I set the volume (on the G68) at around 80-90 (out of a 100). Am I doing something wrong, or what? I am pleased with the quality but displeased with having to lower the volume to stop the G55 overheating/clipping.
80-90 is on my system very very loud... I use 558 amps and Kef reference 203 speakers. They are sort of comparable to 804's. These are 6 Ohm speakers, and i never felt the 588 getting hot. My listening level on a 861 is around 70.
Think something must be wrong, Im afraid. I use 804s - previously with a 558.2 and now with a 559. You are quite right that they come alive at higher volumes. This is a known trait of all nautilus series speakers but particularly the 804 and 803. However, my normal listening level is on "62." At 80 the sound is verging on deafening. I don`t think Ive ever been higher than 85 but there was no clipping, no distortion - in fact nothing unpleasant could be heard other than my normally tolerant neighbour banging on the partition wall..........
G98, HD621, 568.25, 558.2, 559, B&W 803Ds, HTM2D, 4xSCM1, ASW850, Pioneer PDLX5090 50" Plasma, Cables by Atlas and Chord
other than my normally tolerant neighbour banging on the partition wall..........
ha ha ha. Yes but you are using the 559 and I am using the G55 which I think is less powerfull (???)

Why can't I experience that without frying eggs on the G55 at the same time?
Jaco, what you experience at level 70, I get around 85-90. And your speakers being 6Ohm I guess they should play louder than with 8Ohn speakers or am I wrong?
Maybe I must go through the speaker configuration again, but I doubt that this is the problem. I must have missed something else or the is a problem with the amp, or I should install an LARGE airconditioning in that room on top of the G55...
