For what it's worth, I saw a black G55 on display at my local Meridian dealer (Music Matters) in Birmingham (UK) a few days ago.

They pride themselves as having the largest regional stock of Meridian kit.

Stefan,

did you manage to figure out the trigger?

Has anyone listened to the G55 yet? Any comments? What speakers were there connected to it?

Thanx
Costas

Not heard a G55 but have heard a G57 at my local Dealer (Music Matters in Solihull). Seemed quite happy driving B&W 802s and some extremely expensive DynAudios. I use a 558.2 and a 559 in my system. The 559 is more powerful in wattage terms than the G57 but an older design. They reckon the G57 edges it on sound... which is really saying something. The 559 has an amazing dynamic range. The 558.2 is brilliant but noticeably less smooth than the 559. It is conversely twice as powerful (on paper) as the G55 but if it sounds better, it might be worth considering. Anyone know why the new amps are less powerful than their forebears ?

I recently had a demo of DSPs, including the magnificent 8ks, and then wanted to hear the G57 with Wilson-Benesch Arcs, for a smaller room. Well, it was possible to go from the 8ks to this much smaller setup without too much shock, and the Arcs with G57 certainly had a very good midrange. It was at the top, and of course bottom, that they really showed their problems. The G57 certainly does seem to take its cue from the 8k amplifiers, and I am planning to return to hear the G57 with those odd chess piece Wilson-Benesch Discovery. The Wilson-Bensch speakers really seem to go well wuith merdian amps.
Of course if Meridian did a smaller 7/8k speaker for similar price, I wouldn't bother, but as they don't...

Hallo,

sorry for answering so late (came back from holidays yesterday night). I made a few tries with the settings (HIGH-LOW) and connected the G55 once to the G68 and once to the G98. Unfortunately nothing. It seems that the G55 is not interested in the Trigger signal! I will further try to get a Polymeter (like suggested from Costas) and make a test on the G55 trigger input.

Playing with the MConfig the following questions raised:
- there are only Trigger setting for the sources (DVD-SAT-TV-TAPE...). Basically the G55 is not a source it is a receiver (very fiscal isn't it?).
- there are no properties setting for the G55
Any comments?

Well, my speakers are from KEF. I use KEF Q7 (front), KEF Q9c (center) and Q2Ds as rear's.

My previous equipment was Pioneer VSX-2011 (A/V Receiver) with a Pioneer DV-757Ai (DVD Player) same speakers.

Impressions? Well, when you are able to hear breathing the musician (John Lewis-Private concert), when you are able to hear moving the footpedals and the mecanics inside the piano and when you have the impression to have him around......i personally have nothing to add. Simply fantastic.

At last, I just received the silver G68AXV & silver G55 (instead of Black), but still they look ok [Linked Image from softronix.com]

Now I have to get some XLR interconnects to start them up ...

If i remember right from what i was told on a question on why the output of the 558 did not double when going from a 8 Ohm to a 4 Ohm load it has to do with the height of the boxes. That must sound silly, but they tried to explain that it has to do with the physical capacitor height that would fit and the capacity and voltage of that capacitor. Since the 558 is quite full with cooling profiles i can sort of understand that.
The G series are even lower, so perhaps that is the reason ?

Hy Costas,

i will try to quote the G55.
Onestly never heard something similar sounding like the G55 (compared to my previous equipment and those of my friends which have LINN and ROTEL). As you can see my opinion is not because i'm an Meridian owner, but i compared heavily with other brands!.

The designed space (or soundstage) is wide and realistic, overwhelming details, very equilibrated and more than enough power (at least for my usage). I can ensure you that my listening room is far from being good (clean and hard surfaces everywhere). What did me surprise is the immediate good sound without tweaking too much.

Due too the fact that also you are now a proud owner of G68-G55 let us know your experience. By the way which cables you are supposed to use in your system? I use the VDH FIRST ULTIMATE for digital and analog connection.
