Semantics but 44.1-48 is upsampling. If it's that objectionable, you could always preprocess your music with your audio editor of choice.

If you're using an iPhone you don't have the space for decent lossless music in any volume and even if you have a convoluted route to get it out to a decent DAC. So assuming you've got pretty high quality AAC 256 or simlar then I've found the Apple TV a really nice device to live with for just making things instantly play (iPad/iPhone etc pictures/video/music)
Having said that I couldn't really stand it for anything other than background listening.
My iPhone does sterling serivce as a Jremote, for Jriver as the music server. This gives all the form factor and a nice way to instantly play things without having to massively comprimise on sound quality.

You could try something like the QED U-Play+ which has analog and a optical output.
