Hi,

I purchased the 220v version of the DSP3200s when in Africa. I had them converted to 110 before I moved back to US but I think the fuse was not changed. Now when I plug them into 110v outlet they do not power up but the breaker on the circuit does not open. Could this be the result of having the wrong fuse or could it be that the conversion to 110v was not done properly?

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Compare to 220 Volt switching 110 Volt requires twice the amps for the same power, so it is likely that if the original fuse was left in it will have blown.

Take the fuse out and check it with a multi-meter if you can. I think you will find it has popped.

The good news, is that fitted the correct size in each DSP should rectify the problem.

Regards,
Carl

Thanks Carl. I found a tech note from Meridian on the 3200 which indicates the 110v fuse should be T2A 20mm sand filled ceramic. I could not find a tech note for the 3300. Would it be the same fuse?

Well I looked and the 3300 has a different fuse for 220 v than the 3200 so, obviously, it will have a different one than the 3200 for 110v as well. Grateful if anyone knows which fuse I should use for 110v for the 3300.

For 110 Volt use it is normally double that rating of the 220 Volt use fuse.

I = P / V

Here is the DSP3200 fuse location and type technical note.

The fuse for 110V is part number G20268 T2A 20mm Sand Filled Ceramic

I already have tech note for 3200. Thanks.

I just need to know which of the numbers on the existing 3300 fuse indicates amps.

Jack, the type of fuse is like on almost product written at the power connection.

Here is a good hires picture on the Media-Meridian HP that show the 230 VAC type, for 110 VAC you simply double the value as Carl posted-thats it.

As you changed the voltage by yourself as you posted, what have you done exactly?

Robert,

My M dealer provided me with the instructions but I had an electrical engineer do the conversion for me so I can't tell you precisely what he did.

I replaced the fuses with double the amps. I see a green light on the 3300 as center (attached to AC11) but no green lights on the 3200s. Not sure I remember if there are green lights on the 3200s when I was operating them with 220v.

So I'm a bit lost at the moment. Bottom line I'm not getting any sound out of the set up with MS600 end point and G68J processor. Even if the 3200s are not working I would think I would hear something out of the 3300 since the DSP default for two channel is Trifield.

Jack

Try one of these or all (no order).

Did you double checked all your wiring?

1) Connect only the 3200 direct to the G68 and go with your PC in Mconfig and start calibration. So the 3200 should wake up and make noise.

If you get no sound try your other speaker so you know that your G68 outputs a signal.

2) Another way is to wire all your equipment/speakers as it have to be and turn your equipment out of standby. When your 3200 get power you should hear a small noise at the tweeter. You have to go very close to the tweeter to hear it.
If you hear nothing either the 3200 are not out of standby or maybe a internal fuse is inside the 3200.

3) Or simply power off the 3200 with the power switch and when you turn it back on you would hear the movement of the chassis-also go here very close to the speakers.

On the 3200, a dim green led indicates stand-by and a strong green led indicates on. If there is no led at all then it isn't powered, as I understand it.

As far as getting sound goes, what is actually connected to the SpeakerLink sockets on the DSP3200's ? I'm just trying to work out how the non-speakerlink G68J is connected up for digital signals and comms purposes and whether there might be any issues with that.

You mentioned a MS600 earlier. I'd try all the speakers connected to that with SpeakerLink, if getting them out of standby is a concern.
