In the G65 instruction manual, they use the G55 as the sample power amp? Does Meridian still make the G55? If not, what an odd decision to use a product they have not made in years, as their recommendation.

Not really so odd to show how a new product can be used with older established systems.

The G68 has been removed from the Meridian website, so it is the clear replacement.

Taking a closer look at it:
- G68 has 900 MIPS, G65 has 750 MIPS processing. Less powerful roomcorrection?
- Both have 96KHz outputs, missed opportunity in 2013 not to go for 192KHz on analoge out?
- The G65 has linear power, nice!
- 8 XLR out, but only 6 channels in... great for 3 subs, making an awesome monitors+subs in Trifield and extra LFE sub for surround! Missed opty for 7.1
- Reduced jitter. Not clear against what. The G68? Or the 565?
- USB is only for maintenance. Too bad, because it would have been nice too hook up ie a mac mini directly.

Of course the big question is how it sounds.
Is this a worthwhile upgrade for my G68? The linear power, all XLR and less jitter seem to be the main drivers for enhanced sound experience... Looking forward to comparisons.

Don't believe I've seen any availability announcements?

I stand by my view that using a product as a demo in an instruction manual that hasn't been manufactured for years is an odd decision. Why not show how to connect the G65 to legacy DSP's then? Certainly a hell of a lot more of them vs the G55. They then go on to tell you that "An ideal choice is the Meridian G55 5-Channel Power Amplifier." Doesn't that sort of encourage the buyer to seek out a used one? Seems to highlight gaps in the product offering. They don't even use their own CD player in the demo, they use an Oppo blu-ray.

Beyond that, I do also find it interesting that in the manual, none of the setup demos show how to set up an eight channel setup, just a five. I think that is pretty telling of what M thinks the target is for the product.

I think its a great product and one that M needed, so don't take my comments as anything but curiosity. Also, I used to own a G55. Was great, if only it had a little more juice. I think its one of the great 5-channel amps.

I'd love a Meridian branded Oppo (especially one with built-in HD621)
Now that's a nice idea. G Series styling of course.

Checked the Viertron Euro list price: 6.495,00

In UK the list price is 4500 GBP. Given the current exchange rates, and no customs, the euro price would translate to 5436 GBP. Shipping can't be that much, can it?
Gotta be something wrong with my math...

Which in the UK does not exist?!?! My impression was that 4500 GBP included UK taxes. Did I misinterpret this? As a consumer I can buy both in UK or NL.

For the delta I can do a personal business class pickup with money to spare...
I must be missing something.

It does and that is the recommended retail price to consumer.

Thanks, thought I was getting old.

I guess I'll look for a UK PP with a nice (young) demo at a steal with an awesome trade in on my G68 smile smile....

[edit]Accepting unsolicited PP PM's wink
