But have you noted "G65 performance highlights include a new linear power supply, the full suite of Meridian Resolution Enhancement technologies including up-sampling with apodising, MRC (Meridian Room Correction), MHR (Meridian High Resolution), SmartSource, and enhanced SpeakerLink connectivity for use with DSP Loudspeakers that feature Enhanced Bass Alignment (EBA) and Centre Elevation."
Yes, it's a fair bet that the both the analogue and SpeakerLink output sections of the G65 outperform those of the G61 and G68 considerably.
Isn't that a bit presumptious? I've forgotten how many times I've read about the "latest and greatest" killing last years whatever. Hardly as though the old gear was bad, so my assumption is that it's more likely to be a subtle improvement.
Oh, any improvements will definitely be subtle; everything is at this level. My point is that the output sections of the 861v6 and then 861v8 have - apparently - taken jitter to even lower levels than, say, 861v4. It's only natural that new output sections developed for the G95 will benefit from the 861 developments.

Just a pity that it doesn't get 7.1 MMHR (or 7.1 analogue input, which you can get on something 1/20th of the price).
Just what are all these 7.1 films in your collection that sound so bad via Meridian matrixing?
I don't think that's relevant to the point. I don't buy movies on disc. However many there are now, there will be more. This is a newly-launched product, so it would have been reasonable to expect it. Certainly anyone who isn't an M aficionado would simply assume it did it (a mistake which several people have made in relation to the G61/G68), especially with an HD621 that provides 7.1 out. Nevertheless, it's a welcome product for sure.
If technically possible a digital only version of G65 c/w MS200 would be a very attractive proposition.
I too was wondering how the G65 is used with a legacy DSP speaker system i.e. no SpeakerLink. Presumably only with Revivers if I understand their use correctly? In that case a digital only version would be very useful, though I doubt Meridian will release one if they wish to move the market on from digital to SpeakerLink input to DSP.
Hi Matt, by "digital only" I believe Hector means no analogue outputs. I don't see any new processors being equipped with SPDIF output, they will all have SpeakerLink.
Hmm, I think it is. Meridian is not a high volume, lowish margin, Japanese or Korean behemoth and has far fewer development resources. It's clear to me that Meridian took a feature ROI decision which resulted in re-use of the existing G6x main board architecture. Certainly they will have considered demand for an 8-channel discrete input and, in this case, decided that it really didn't merit the presumably considerable effort in re-architecting the processor from scratch.
Yes, the omission might seem "glaring" compared with cheaper products, and naturally disappointing to some, but I think this is one example where common-sense held out. Would we have preferred list price to have been 500 or more higher?

Existing gas, electricity, water and telecoms users clearly subsidise new customers, unless existing customers are prepared to seek a new deal and switch suppliers. Why should converts to DSP speaker technology (in my case 19 years and no viable alternative) continue to pay for analogue facilities that will never be used. Meridian, IMHO, should recognise their success and reward committed DSP speaker customers with products that provide technical and audio quality advances without any extraneous costs.
G65 Digital only please!

My understanding is that the additional cost of SKU proliferation, re-engineering, testing, qualification etc vs the hardware savings made by excluding XLR for the digi-heads and SL for the analoguers just didn't add up.
You would end up with complaints that the digi-only version was only 200 cheaper than the full version (and vice-versa). Then you would have a distorted view of what the digi and analogue sections were worth.
Some variation on the sum of the parts is more expensive than the combined article.
You could argue that a unit with both is twice as likely to sell when you next upgrade. It has been known for folks to by the wrong flavour of player or SSP because they didn't know there were variants.
