Until a full production unit comes out the pictures are for guidance.

I suspect the photos with the latest back panel with SpeakerLink connectors on the right rather than in the centre is probably the way it will be.

As the inputs are then grouped together rather than being separated by the output card.

However Meridian will do what is best for both production and audio quality.

The data sheet is correct. The photos were of an early unit and Meridian modified the card locations before production.

New photos will be released soon showing the correct card layouts, I will upload as soon as I receive them.

Thanks

A new Meridian controller is always exciting, and it's great that the G-series makes the huge step forwards in having a linear power supply at last.

But colour me a little disappointed. For some reason I was expecting HDMI inputs. I've long argued in favour of Merdian's approach here, but I'm not convinced any more. I've heard the difference that an HDMI connection makes, and it's not much.

More importantly, I think the fundamental limitations imposed by MMHR may be GREATER than the benefits of doing away with HDMI.

As always, I think what we need is a Meridian Oppo clone player with MMHR output to drive this controller.

I disagree. I think M has done a great job here. Seems to have answered a lot of requests. Still don't know what it sounds like and if there are some other little surprises. On HDMI, I have to agree with VK on this one, why such the focus. I would note that changes to HDMI standard are set and one that we know is that there WILL BE a change to hardware required. Why would M want to go down that path, creating a product obsolete the day its hits the sales floor. I would add that the ability to have the HD621 away from the processor is also a nice touch, in some installations.

I fully agree on the Meridian Oppo with MMHR out.

Is there a list price indication ?
Hello,

This is a new product within the G series. Think of it as a cross section of the 861v8/G68/G61R.

Price in the UK 4500.00
Thanks Ian, let me know once you have a steal on a (young) demo unit. wink

It reduces the G68 and G68R to one SKU - a smart move in inventory management.

This looks like a nice addition to the lineup and, presumably, rationalization.

It would be nice if, down the road, the linear PS is offered as a retrofit for older G series units (assuming it fits).

It would also be nice to have the option of removing the video board from the G68ADV and replacing it with an MMHR and SpeakerLink in/out board.

Cheers, Ian

Nice... Got quite excited for a while... SpeakerLink input, MMHR input... etc. but still 'only' 6 channel means I won't be upgrading from the G61R. I was ready to buy one until I read that... Shame as I can't justify 800 series and there is nothing to address the gap. Still, I've saved 4500 ...

Idly wondering whether this will be enough of an improvement over my beloved 861v4 (even when it is - perhaps -fitted with an LPS) to justify my moving to a G65, rather than concentrating all of my wishful thinking on an unaffordable 861v6/8. (I should clarify: unaffordable for me, with twin teen-aged sons, and a music/film room already packed to the gills with equipment.)

Of course, only time and the experience will tell, but in description it sounds like a substantial improvement over the current G series, which I've never liked.

Regards,
Roger

Perhaps a little off topic, but still relevant I think...

a) IMHO Most Movies that are worth Buying and Watching on Bluray do not have 7.1 Soundtracks.

b) the Movies that do have 7.1 Discrete Soundtracks are not so easy to distinguish from what Meridian is able to "Synthesise" from the Rears and output thru the Sides in a Meridian 7.1 system. IMHO you really have to listen to hear the difference between the Discrete and Synthesised versions.

I think this looks like a great addition to the lineup, with some nice improvements over the previous G-series processors, including LPSU, improved clocking/reduced jitter, etc., and sounds like Meridian have been listening feature-wise.

Good to have an up-to-date processor for those who can't run to more than twice the price for an 861v8. Hopefully it will sound spectacular too. I guess this doesn't have an optional Sooloos endpoint card - you have to add a separate endpoint like an MS200/MS600, etc.?

Yes, that is what it says further up the thread. Maybe you should read what's already been written before posting? wink

Other points to note:

- It powers the MS200.
- You can choose which level of end point you want.
- You're not forced to pay for an unused endpoint if you're not a Sooloos user.
