The MC200 has variable analogue outputs that you would connect direct to a power amp.
Control the volume by iPad, I have this arrangement for headphones.
The power amp could be installed in the ceiling above your speakers. Just about any old power amp will do for your purpose, no need for a Meridian one.

Think of the MC200 set to variable output as acting as its own preamp. So you only need a power amp (or an active speaker which of course contains a power amp). Getting an integrated would mean duplicating the preamp and volume control part.
On the other hand, if you have multiple sources in that zone and need switching, then get an integrated plus passive speakers, or a pre plus actives, or a pre-power plus passives. In that scenario you would switch the MC200 to fixed output, and would lose iPad control of volume in that zone.

Just a further thought. If my MC200 is not connected to my 861 then I assume I then need an amp and a processor to connect my MC200 to passive speakers? Hi Dave, Did you see the zone 1 and zone 2 illustrations I posted? It's really quite straightforward, I think your over thinking it. I've updated to show signal types, hope that helps. Regards, Carl

Hi Carl,
Yes, I saw the illustrations and they are very useful. Thank you. I also spoke to Rick at Audio Images yesterday afternoon and I now understand that a hardware modification to the comms card is also highly likely to be required before the ID40 card will work. I need to remove my card to check it. He also made a recommendation for a power amp to use (Parasound Zamp), which also includes auto on/ standby features, so will meet my needs nicely and am therefore likely use the speakers I have already bought.
