Just to add balance to this view. Actually I have it on good authority that the failure rate of M Switch Mode PSUs is very low, esp. over the last 3 or 4 years or so. However, of course the 1000s of people with units that are fine typically don't post about it.

PS The PSU in my 800D failed once; M fixed it FOC under warranty, the replacement (a slightly different design IIRC) has been fine ever since.
