We watch a film most nights so I could quickly overload the server with recommendations, but last night we watched Requiem For a Dream. I only recently came across it & bought the Bluray based on IMDb's rating (it's in their all-time top 250 films; about No80 I think), so watched it without knowing the story. Well, what a powerful bit of film-making that is. Not one to watch with the kids or the parents or on a first date but amazingly powerful. The photography is terrific, image quality first rate but it's the story that's so crushing. It's so grim that it almost isn't "enjoyable" but I'd recommend it to anyone who isn't squeamish. Also, when the seasons are announced (black screen with a white "Summer", "Fall" etc), the sound goes from virtual silence to ear-splitting almost instantaneously.

Sony VW870 projector & S-T lens, Lumagen Radiance Pro. Lounge: Roon, NUC, Kef LS50 Wireless + 2 x REL Gibraltar-2 subs

Clint Mansell's soundtrack to this film is well worth purchasing (performed mostly by Kronos Quartet, a NY modern-classical group). Yes, Clint is the former lead singer and guitarist from Pop Will Eat Itself.

We saw Rush tonight. I'm a hardcore F1 fan so even with the favorable reviews in some of the motor racing press I expected to be unimpressed but wasn't. A good movie overall and Ron Howard kept it pretty factual. It's a movie those not familiar with F1 in general, much less that particular year will, I think, enjoy. The movie was very well cast and the action/racing scenes were well done. Worth a watch in your local theater with a decent sound system. It's opened successfully here in the U.S. so it might be a while before its available on Netflix, etc.

This is an old film so most on here may have seen it decades ago but we watched Barry Lyndon last night. Utterly brilliant, utterly gorgeous to look at; one of Kubrick's finest I'd say.

Watched Flight and Argo on consecutive nights. The take-off and following action in Flight is quite some audio work-out. The film was not about what I expected, more cerebral and questioning than the engineering investigation I had assumed. The opening crowd scenes in Argo are interesting tests for recreating an all-round sound-field. Affleck still can't act but, as the director, he certainly built tension into the last twenty minutes. John Goodman is a hoot in both.
In the spirit of Spinaltap, I would like to confirm that I am not involved in the corrupt theft of a global sport.

John Goodman is wonderful in the Coen Brothers roles he's done.

We saw Flight at the cinema and really enjoyed it. Washington is great in it but then he always is. Goodman is just terrific in it though!

Spinaltap recommended Olympus Has Fallen which we watched a few nights ago. I thought it was terrific & has A grade audio to boot.
Last night's treat was Oblivion. That type of film is right up my street and the visuals are Weapons-Grade. Absolutely stunning. Best looking film ever? It's up there with Lawrence Of Arabia and a handful of others.

+1 for Oblivion. I rented it on my Apple TV and will certainly be buying a BD of it. An impressive film.
