Just picked up 5 DSP 420 with boxes ,etc. - I have a question about wiring to test - they are the original bar wiring - I wire one as a master center which m5 and s5 goes to processor- one of the others goes to s5 with the master s5 and the others are daisy chained from that one?

You hook the M5 (comms and SPDIF) to the processor to your master speaker. In your case you've set the centre as master. Since I don't think you've got a 511 slave patch, I'm presuming that you're going to daisy chain your comms. Diagram for sample 511 setup up is here.

You take the SPDIF out for each other pair from the processor to one of that pair. You need to connect each paired speaker to the other using an SPDIF cable.

For comms you can daisy chain S5s from your master to each speaker .

Hope I got that right. Easier with a picture.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

Your 420 have to be connected like all other legacy DSP.
The 420 have terminals instead of connectors.
Follow the instructions from dpstjp.
Here from Duncan great sides are the Installation procedure
Choices:
a)With 511 as described from dpstjp.
b)No 511: M-5 lead from 568 to master,S-lead from master to "other" slaves.
That "other" slave could be each one, from that "other" DSP on simply daisy chain to all remaining slaves.
c)Custom: You can do a "parallel" or "daisy chain" mix with self build cables or strip/bar. That distribution have to start on the "com out" of the master DSP like the other solutions a) and b)
Audio only:
One coax-cable to each DSP pair
Front,
center/sub,
sdes
rears
The second DSP in each pair is daisy chained from the first DSP in that pair.

If you don't have a 511, wire them up as below, as the 420s have a terminal strip, just buy a reel of 75ohm cable for the SPDIF and a reel of single core microphone cable for the Comms
[Linked Image from i1224.photobucket.com]

You can also use the 75ohm cable for comms if you buy a large reel.

Steve.

Thanks for the amazing responses.

In my mind I'm pretty sure I've got it - I do have a 511 slave patch so I'll use that - I bought a 568.2mm from the seller last year and couldn't swing the 420's at the time.

I thought he might have sold them already but they came up on eBay on Friday and I jumped at them , he couldn't get the system to work and didn't know the processor was a mm model.

He got it from a job site I'm sure and had difficultly with the Meridian way of doing things (but then again who hasn't at some point in time) at least I know where to go for advice and I thank you.

Scott.

I've tested the speakers by putting them in a pair (master/ slave) - one speaker the treble is much better than the other 4 - I switched the boxes/wiring they were in and the better tweeter is in the one. Is it possible that the other 4 have bad tweeters? The tweeters seem to work in the others but they don't seem to play cymbals at all . I did reset them per the manual but no change - anyone have any ideas? Thanks, scott

Play a 2channel source and then select mono preset.
With the arrow keys on the MSR select "party mode".
All speakers have to be sound equal now.
Maybe you have a test CD with (white noise) noise or a select on your analogue tuner a spot between stations so you also get some white noise.

I did the party setting and the speakers are still a bit "Muffled" except for the one - they sound like the signal is not getting completely to them, that the tweeter is not working properly - this on 4 of the speakers with the one sounding normal

Is it possible 4 tweeters are blown? I listened to them closely and if there's any output it's very low.

Well, I pulled a tweeter from a DSP5000C that has a bad board and the DSP420 worked perfectly. So I have 4 bad tweeters, they are seas h0623 (25tafn/qg).

I was able to source one from eBay already, I emailed Meridian and am scouring the internet for the other 3 - if anyone has any leads let me know.

Thanks,
Scott

I got a hold of Marc Koval and ordered three tweeters - I've tested all the speakers and they all work perfect except for the bad tweeters.

I had Seas tweeters similar to these in some Mcintosh HT-1 and SL6 speakers - they have ferrofluid that turns to sludge and locks up the tweeter - this is probably happening in most DSP420's over time with this tweeter (and is mentioned by Roger Russel of Mcintosh on thier site)

That is exactly what happened with my 6ks when I first got them. They had been sitting unused for 2+ years.

I received the tweeters from Meridian (ordered thru local dealer) and wired the whole system up without putting it into the walls (I'm trying to decide if I'm going to keep) and every thing works great and it sounds really good - much better than the Triads and Yamaha Z11 I was using.
