I have been researching the SR002 & SRM002 but just need a recommendation as they are not available to test in the UK. How good are they? Having the larger ones I am clearly a fan of the electrostats but just wondered whether it works on portables. Any advice most welcome

It is a must, the best portable thing ever made!
They sound very transparent and dynamic, with all the stats advantages and very deep bass. The tone signature is different from the SR507, SR002 is very bass heavy and less detailed.
The small amp SRM002 is incredible. No hum, no noise, very good amplification even with cheap source.
The only drawback (or advantage) is that you hear everything outside from the headset, it's so open. But the sound leakage is suprisingly almost inexistent. I use at my work and even at very loud volume there is almost no leakage toward other people.
Just need to change the silicon earbuds, cheap one from china works great comfortwise.

Little O/T but it's great with Explorer. And even better with Director!

Thanks 1337. Reply and advice very much appreciated. Now to tell my long suffering wife, further expenditure needed!

Exactly!

I need to get those little Staxes too. How long do the batteries last in the little energizer? Or do you have it plugged in most of the time? (In which case maybe one should get the version with the mains unit?)

My 404LE/T1 combo sounds amazing fed by the MS600 and although it's tempting to upgrade the source to an 818v2 (I could use the other inputs) I strongly suspect that stepping up to an SR-007 or SR-009 would actually be a much more significant upgrade for the same money.

Incidentally 1337 can I ask where you purchased your Stax SR002 SRM002 & what would be a reasonable price to pay?
Thanks

I can't answer for him but I would try Pricejapan.com at 388. Not sure if that includes commission, shipping etc.
