Well again two weeks plus have gone by and still no upgrade for the 568.2mm!

I emailed Meridian last week and no reply. They must have there heads between there legs.

I wonder if a full year will go by since there anouncement of Prologic IIx for the 568! After all that's only 3 more months and it will be a full year. I'm sorry but it doesn't take that long to fix a few bugs and add this new feature. They have abandoned the people that keep them in business.

You'll see the G series owners will be abandoned in time. Now I know why my local shop has dropped Meridian. There tactics anger customers and it hurts business.

They have spent the last couple of months working on the big G upgrade that came out last week. They are closed this week.

One of the fixes in the G had to be approved by Dolby and THX. The 568 requires the same fix.

I imagine they might be able to get some 5xx and 8xx work done.

You think the fixes are in place and they are just waiting approval by Dolby and THX? The firmware was in beta over a month ago. The waiting is a killer! I've only had the 568.2mm since December. What about all that have waited since September when they first anounced the upgrade? Nine months...A lot of audio/videophiles don't keep equipment that long.

It will be the end of the products life span before new software is released...at least it seams that way.

Ron

The fix that required THX and Dolby approval was the missing bass, which I believe was something near and dear to your heart. [Linked Image from softronix.com]

Hahahaha! I'm surprised It wasn't found during the first pass of approvals. You are correct...thats the only problem I have with the current release. Missing bass in multichannel.

Thanks!

Er....if the "fix" needed to be authorised by Dolby and THX, does that mean the original - presumably flawed - version had also been "approved " by them?

Begs the question about the assurance of quality through adherence to a standard which is promulgated by a private profit-making organisation as a de facto standard gflobally. Or simply put, does this demonstrate that the THX badge is just that?

I think what may have happened is the testing process was not thorough enough to find the problem the first time. Hopefully they have figured it out this time.

If you go back through the threads on this forum, I have some explanations on what I found with the bass while decoding multichannel sound in the 598. Basically, the 568.2mm crossover for bass management was setting the crossed over bass from the main channels 10dB too low in the sub. The delta between the LFE and bass management was still 10dB as it should be per Dolbys spec. They just never compared the over all sub level with the main channels level. This is only a problem with multichannel through smartlink. A single coax connection and decoding of multichannel in the 568 works as it should.

Perhaps that is what is taking so long "they" are making sure everything is 100% right. Frustrating still

Just think how long the 568.2mm/598 has been out! I'm beyond frustrated. When I purchesed the 568.2mm to upgrade from my 568.1, I figured all the bugs had been worked out since the 568.2 was released in 2002. You would think by 2004 the bugs would have been all worked out. It is a pain in the butt to have to adjust my sub everytime I listen to multichannel tracks. Thank God my sub has remote control volume.

I bought the 568.2 because I needed a processor at the time and could not be without while waiting for the G series, this was back in september after they announced PLIIx, very frustrating.

No Darling, I've had it months!
