I need to keep this post alive over time just to point out to the people buying G series that all the problems will not get fixed in the G series.
Look how long it has been that fixes are needed on the 500 series and that they have abandoned the 500 series folk!
I've received an email from the head of sales and he says he is trying to get an answer to when the 568 will be fixed. That was over a week ago. Several weeks before that I emailed with no answer.
It seems they do read these post but I find it so sad that even in R&D they can not get answers.
I feel bad for the sales guys.
If I ever upgrade I will seriously look at other manufacturers.
This is beyond pathetic. We are almost at the ten month mark since Meridian anounced Prologic 2x in the 568.
10 months with no fixes and no update!
I just don't know what to say to them anymore. All my friends are very aware of this and they just laugh. I can't even be an advocate of Meridian gear because they know the story about being abandond.
Granted Meridian is swamped right now trying to fill G series orders but this problem will eventually catch up with them.
My local shop has dropped Meridian.
There is obviously lack of leadership at Meridian. This issue should have been pushed to the top of the list long ago.
So sad indeed!

Ron, I think you're right to keep this topic alive. Apparently there is a THX sign off process which I was told, weeks ago, that the software fix was nearly ready for.
It would be helpful if Meridian would post upgrade release plans (content and date) on their web site. If a release slips, fine, but at least the content would have visibility and attendant commitment.
The longer this goes on the more it seems that M lack commitment to software updates for the 500 series. It's not just a resource or priority issue any more, it's a question of commitment. More open information would help.

I doubt there are much people using a THX preset anyway. I personally do not use a THX preset, as the attuation of high frequencys is not good i think.
Will the THX mark add value to a Merdian product ? If so, why are the amps not THX approved ? They certainly are good enough for that, but they do not have it ?
I always though THX signs are woth not much, only tell you the product is capable of doing a minimum set of rules. Most products in this price level do that, with or without THX sign..

Good point Jaco!
I could care less about the approval. I think it is rediculous that they must submit every change to software thru approvals. I think it is an excuse.
Your right...I've never used THX. Maybe if you have a cheap system that is overly bright then the roll off may tame the grit. That's about the only time I can think of using it. Then it just sounds like a dull gritty top end! Haha!

I still use THX. And to me THX logo is still worth it. Too many companies go off track with bad ideas. I suspect there is negociations between Meridian, Dolby and THX that in the end produces the best result.
I agree about being more open. It would even be fine to say hey we are busy catching up on G Series and will be back on it. But leaving us in the dark just makes us angry. I also agree I would hesitate on the G series based on there recent history on 500 series. They "appear" they will drop the G series when the H series comes around like a stone. It feels like we've been excluded from the Meridian family unless we buy G-Series. I would consider it, if they offered an upgrade path.
But no upgrade path, and delayed patches at this price range is hard to swallow. $15k every 3 years to stay in the family is just too expensive for me. Lack of upgrades also causes your "current" (cough cough) equipment to drop in value like a rock too.
They are not playing the "elite" game correctly. And everyone suffers. Except maybe audiogon.

Well the THX approval didn't find the bass level problem in the 568 with smartlink the first time around. They probably never tested it or some lazy tester didn't bother running all the tests. Then the consumer pays the extra cost of that approval. It raises the final retail price.
The other thing is the studios record the levels in all the channels based on what they think is right. Take a THX audio test tone on one DVD...compare it to another THX DVD. They usually are not the same levels every time. Most DVD's don't even have test tones. Why bother with THX if you still have to adjust the rears? If the studios put the test tones on the DVD...Just adjust it to the engineers levels that he wanted to be. We don't need THX for that.

Well the THX approval didn't find the bass level problem in the 568 with smartlink the first time around. Why would they? The M DVD player is not a THX product, so they don't submit to THX and the Smartlink requires their player. There were a lot of improvements with the latest G update. It really fixed a lot of pops and clicks. I am just guessing here, but this could be something they want in the 568 software. The 568 uses older DSPs, so that code would have to be ported back. This will probably be one of the last 568 updates, so getting it right can take a while. Then again, perhaps it is done and they have just emailed it to all of the customers except you just to annoy you. ![[Linked Image from softronix.com]](http://www.softronix.com/ubb/smile.gif) (sorry, could not resist.) Ya well read the posts! There are a lot of problems still with the G series. Ok since smartlink doesn't go through THX approval, why do they use that excuse? THX approvals were needed several years ago when the 568 first came out. Meridian used to send fixes through email for those who had problems and updates came pretty fast and were posted pretty fast. Stacey! Come on! 10 Months! Anyone would be pissed off. I know your sick of reading this post...I'm sorry but 10 months is way too long. Thanks for posting to keep this thread on top though ![[Linked Image from softronix.com]](http://www.softronix.com/ubb/smile.gif)

So! Case and point!
I have these Bryston 7B-ST amplifiers and I write an email asking them if I could have a 4.5 year old pair of monoblock amplifiers sent back to add a remote turn on circuit that was an option back then. They tell me I can have the amps upgraded... $300 for both! They ordered new rear panels with my serial numbers that have the holes to add the terminals and timer circuit. Then I sent the amps in last Thursday, got there Friday 10:30am and they were upgraded and sent Monday... on my door stop this Tuesday afternoon. Is that service or what?
20 year warranty on these wonderful sounding amps!
Oh! No charge for return shipping too!
10 months no 568 upgrade! Pretty bad!

Ron,
I agree that this thread should be kept open/active until we know what's happening with the 568 software updates, but, with the greatest respect, please take some time out with the moaning. The point was made long ago and hasn't changed.
For every reference to other companies doing 'this' or 'that' better than M, I could give you 1st-hand examples of where the support from the folks at M is first class - and I mean current examples too not ones from ye olde days.
That is not to say that everything is perfect with the current state-of-the-nation but let's just be a little more balanced in this.
With regards
Nick

Hi Nick,
Ya I know...This point in regards to service is fresh since it just happened. It just threw wood on the fire.
I'm getting to the point I don't care any more. I've said enough. At some point it goes too far and i guess I already pushed it too far.
