Not that I can see. As the drives can be swapped in/out the core software must reside somewhere else. Where...I don't know. ![[Linked Image from Meridian-audio.info]](http://www.Meridian-audio.info/public/md600a%5b4262%5d.jpg)

We need a device, preferrably with the form of a MS200, that runs core off ROM.

It's a card like this - plugged in to the USB header. Guessing it's only 1 or 2 Gb's in size. Plenty for the OS install. ![[Linked Image from Meridian-audio.info]](http://www.Meridian-audio.info/public/IntelSSD.jpg)

Pity they didn't include that SSD in the MC200.
Probably costs a few pounds.

The Ensemble runs the Sooloos Core without a hard drive being present.
Pretty sure that the MD600 will do the same. Maybe Nick can check using his C15 and MD600 with the Drives removed, but still running the Core?
The Hard Drive is used for Media Storage only. All OS related files reside in Flash as pointed out above by Duncs.

I can confirm that the MD600 will run the core when there are no hard drives fitted.

A combination ID40/ID41 and MD600 core on a card that would be retrofittable to 861 and G68 (in place of video card) would be very desirable.

No, I don't see that as desirable at all, as it would put a lot of computer electronics (CPU, Memory, glue logic etc.) inside the processor, with all its associated noise.
Much better would to be able to the run core on the QNAP NAS.

A lot of the QNAP Pro NAS have PCIe expansion slots. I wonder if a Meridian Core card could be made that resides in one of these?
Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.
Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

The best solution is to keep the sensitive D/A parts away from the very noisy spinning hard drives. Further, the QNAP isn't slave to the Meridian network. Meaning that the core would have to share the processing power of the QNAP with other applications requiring the resources of the QNAP NAS. I am not saying it wouldn't work, but I can assure you, it won't sound better. Thinking back to my Naim days. The system backbone that Naim used called Netstreams, always made a point of recommending that operators maintain separate serves for music, Video and other? I have heard others suggest this as well.
Primary: MD600, MS200 (SpeakerLink to AES), Trinnov ST-2, Ayre V6-xe, Salk SS8 3x LRC. Secondary: MC600 (whole house). Zone one: 568.2, G57, MS200, Spatial Hologram M2SE. Zone 2-6 (Awaiting assignment).

Hi,
There are no sensitive D/A parts associated with a Meridian core. The core is the "broker" software that glues the Sooloos distribute architecture together.
The core decodes the FLAC files and then sends the raw PCM via (asynchronous) network packets to the Sooloos End Point.
Providing the decoding is bit perfect (which it is), there should be no effect on audio quality.
