I have the sony VW 1000ES. Great projector. Can only tell you what I have done. Firstly got rid of my Lumagen. Secondly, I do the upscaling to 4K in the projector. I don't know if the Sony or the Oppo are better at 4K upscaling ( I have the Oppo 103), but have worked on the premise that the less data I put down the HDMI link to the Sony the better. I am not too sure how well 4K down a longish cable-run would work (all in all about 7-8 metres, including up to the ceiling). Everything still runs through my HD621.
I still have to have my Sony lowered a bit to get rid of very slight curvature at the sides, so you need to watch the height of the top of your screen compared to your ceiling height carefully. Does this mean that the 80% of screen height offset from centre as specified by Sony is not really practical? Fantastic that you can watch 2.40:1 etc without an anamorphic lens. I have a constant height screen with variable masking. I ended up with the Screen Research E-Mask EL1C. I believe it has 6 settings, so you can cater for all the normal formats.
Be interested to see your findings! As long as light output is not a problem, and the VW1000 has plenty of that, at least for 2D, you are just leaving pixels unused this way. Which the Sony also has plenty off... @Mark The VW1000 requires a 1,25x anamorphic lens. The Isco is 1,33x

The ISCO should be fine. The Radiance does the vertical stretch within the 16:9 frame and the ISCO does the stretch to 2.35:1. Don't see a problem with the Sony... unless its panel is not 16:9, which would be very unusual?

And it doesn't! It has a panel of 17:9... However there's an anamorphic lens setup option and 1.32 can be chosen, which is close enough. I'm sure I can get something to work.

A survey of current 4k displays seems to indicate that at least 2 HDMI or SDI connections are required to support the resolution. In the DVI-D world, 4 connections are required as with the Meridian 810.
It looks to me like a connection standard, not currently ratified, will be required for true 4k carriage over a single cable. This assumes that the data will not be compressed to fit inside current bandwidth delivery systems.

HD621 Does it support 4K? and will it support 8K? Is it easy to learn Japanese?

Looks like Lumagen are getting serious regarding 4k support. Lumagen 4 models
Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.

I have a 2042 incoming, so will be able to test whether I can get a signal through the HD621.

Spec HDMI 1.4a will support 4k.

Spec HDMI 1.4a will support 4k. I understand HDMI v2.0 is supposed to be out later this year and will provide improved support for "4K" formats such as increased frame rates i.e. > 24fps @ 4096x2160 or 30fps @ 3840x2160 which is a limitation of HDMI 1.4. Some current HDMI 1.4 devices i.e. AVR can output at "4k" but don't appear to be able to input and pass through 4k from a source i.e. upscaling BD player. "Based on HDMI Forum meetings it is expected that HDMI 2.0 will increase the maximum TMDS per channel throughput from 3.4 Gbit/s to 6 Gbit/s which would allow a maximum total TMDS throughput of 18 Gbit/s. This will allow HDMI 2.0 to support 4K resolution at 60 frames per second (fps). Other features that are expected for HDMI 2.0 include support for 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, support for 25 fps 3D formats, improved 3D capability, support for more than 8 channels of audio, support for the HE-AAC and DRA audio standards, dynamic auto lip-sync, and additional CEC functions."

I am an under achiever when it comes to all the fine details of the technical aspects of HDMI and 4K and a lot of other things for that matter. I have an 861v4 along with the HD621.
I viewed the Sony 65" 4K today at the Sony store and was blown away. I almost purchased it but then I remembered reading this excellent thread.
I returned to glean these pages and my limited abilities still has me wondering.
Will it work on non 4k source material switched through the HD621.
Am I correct that if a true 4k source material is feed into the HD621 will most likely not work?
Thanks and excuse me if the answer is already in these pages and I just can't grasp it.

JPB, I would think that the Sony TV would work on non-4k source material (i.e. 1080p, 1080i, etc.) switched throught the HD621 and that it should upscale those signals to 4k.

I can confirm that the HD621 *will* pass at least 2160p24 and 2160p30  Tested with output from an Oppo 103 onwards to a Sony vw1000es
