According to the manual which came with my speakers:

Quote
For each source you can configure:

The label used for it on the front panel display, from a
range of alternative labels.
The digital input it selects.
The comms type and address, to control other
Meridian equipment.
Other advanced options.

You only need to configure the sources on the DSP
loudspeaker you have specified as the Master.
Which is of course not to say this is actually correct. wink

I'll give it a try when I have time.

Yes, but I'm sure the Master just informs the Slave of a label number (or index) rather than the alphanumeric characters being used.

No need for 'but': I understand that. Point was only that somehow information about labels is going down Comms. Obviously it would need expansion to do any more than it already does.

There are some very smart people at Meridian who, I'm sure could do this given the incentive. Maybe some kind of group request, or poll? Maybe even agreeing a suitable sum for the service if it's possible...

By the way, anyone know what the current available labels are on DSP5000.2? Not sure I'm running the absolute latest firmware and can't remember how to bring that up? I couldn't find a list of which labels were added with which firmware either...

The latest 5000 firmware added the label change from Aux to SLS.

I think installed firmware is displayed if you press display on the MSR when in speakers are in standby.

My 5200SLs running the latest firmware have the following. I happen to have copied them in order to work out what's best for me.

In typical M style, "Cable" occurs twice in the sequence. Someone must have been napping...

The bottom line here is that we live in a world of constantly evolving tech and operating systems, of Androids and iPads and nightly builds. While it may not be laziness that has prevented M from sorting out this important aspect of their systems (they put displays on their loudspeakers to begin with so they must have valued it ?), it certainly does not reflect well on them that there seems to have been next to no development of this feature over cent decades. Maybe it's not seen as important enough but it could be a 'highlight' feature for ease of use of M systems particularly in a family environment.

If they had adopted that attitude with the audio side of things where would they be now?

While I am not defending Meridian in this, I think it is important to note that the loudspeaker display labels are tied to the buttons on the MSR and MSR+, so for every change in the display labels they would also need to provide new buttons for the MSR+ (can't do anything about the MSR). Providing new buttons to every Meridian user since 2003 (introduction of MSR+) who wanted them would be a logistical challenge. I suppose they could print up thousands of them and make them available to dealers. Of course the dealers would have to install them for clients that were not technically adept.

I don't feel any need to 'slam' Meridian for this, I think it would just be a nice feature to request given the advent of customiseable source displays and the great new vMSR which *will* allow custom button names, that's all.

I find one usually gets further by asking nicely and rationally. Meridian aren't bad guys and I believe they would try to look after customers if it were possible, technically and within feasible economic boundaries.
