Can someone please post information and an explanation of the modified SACD player and how it would work with a G68.
Thanks.

adi,

There's a company in Switzerland, DVD Upgrades that will install a triple SPDIF output onto some Pioneer DVD players. The SPDIF outputs either 24/88.2k or 24/176.4k at the users choice.

Web page.

It should work in theory, but at around US$1200 not counting the player it would be expensive for you to be a guinea pig.

This would give you a fully digital path from SA-CD to the G68 after defining a 2nd multi-channel digital input.

Cheers,

That is the one i meant as well. Hopefully somone else will make a comparable mod for less money..
But 6 good analogue cables set you back a few hundred as well. Not to speak of the IA45 for a 861. (than the mod will be cheaper if you not spend to much cash for the 3 digital interlinks)

John,

Can the 861v3/v4 support a second IE42 card?

Damon,

I don't know if 861v4 will support a 2nd IE42. Personally, I've still got 3x S/PDIFs available on my IE42 as my Non-Meridian gear is all on TosLink (Sat, D-VHS, Scaling DVD).

If you look in the config program, you have Multi-channel 1 (I have 598DP there for now) and Multi-channel 2. So you'd use the other 3 connectors (2,4,6 I think) to connect the SPDIF outs.

It's supposed to work, but it hasn't yet been verified.

Cheers,

Cheers,

There is/was a ID20 card with 2 additional SPDIF and 2 Toslink connections.
A ID25 was recently added, that one has 4 toslinks.
So if you would add such a card to your 861 you could have 2 multi channel inputs on the IE42 for a Meridian drive and a modded SACD player and move your other digital inputs to the ID20 or ID25

I guess this is what John also means.

For the ID25 card you can find some info on the Meridian web pages. it technicla specs are basicly this:
Quote
4 x Toslink (EIAJ) digital optical, IEC958 and data compatible,
up to 24 bits.

For the ID20 i have a PDF file, but no technical data is given there.

Jaco,

That's correct. I have an ID25 in addition to the IE42. This means I have 5 TOSLinks at my disposal which covers all my gear plus any review pieces which come along.

fwiw, i have an ID25. it works as advertised. no drama. i run my satellite, DAT, and game consoles into it.

my understanding is that you can have multiple IE42s in an 800 chassis. the IE42 lacks the "control" hardware that the IA00 has - the stuff required for salve cards like the the TP00 to operate. so i wouldn't think multiple IE42s would be any more of an issue than multiple ID25s, for example.

doody.

A ID25 needs a IE42 to operate. That must be true as well for the ID20, but that card was there when we still had IE16 cards. Have one of them (IE16) left after 861 upgrade to V3. Can still be fitted in 800 i think. Than you would have also more inputs, but i think i read that those inputs cannot be sent over the MHR link, only over AUX ??

That is what i read in the ID25 pdf file:

ID25 is a digital input extension card and features four Toslink connectors.
Working as a slave to the Reference Surround Controller`s master digital-input
card, IE42, ID25 adds four optical inputs to 861.

So i could be wrong, but i guess not.

Hi All;

861 Uses IE42 as the main digital input card, it is necessary for the 861 to function at all. The IE42 has 2 multi channel digital inputs that can be multi channel or 3 SPDIF digital inputs each, and 1 tosslink input. The IE42 will accecpt multi channel PCM up to 96Khz and / or MHR encoded signals (It does work John, I use it [Linked Image from softronix.com] ) No other 800 series input card has a multi channel DIGITAL input.

You cannot add an IE16 card with a IE42 fitted, they conflict and try to pass data onto the same bus line. You can add the IE16 to the 800 for additional digital inputs (it is required, if you want to add any other inputs to the 800, digital or analog) the 800 will pass these inputs out the mult channel output to the 861 (G68) on the main L/R and the 861 (G68) will receive this signal as a 2ch signal to allow processing.

ID20, 25 and 30 can all be fitted to a unit with either a IE16 or an IE42.
